World War One / Medal Card WW1
« on: Monday 21 November 16 19:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hi this has probably been asked before but what exactly is the "Qualifying Date" on the card.

It says Theatre of War (3) Egypt
Qualifying Date 7/11/15

Is this the date he went to Egypt or the date he joined up?

Another medal card showing instead

Theatre of War first served in (1)    ( i know this is France)
Date of entry therein 9/6/15

again is this the date going to France or the date of joining up?

thanks Evelina

Stirlingshire / Denny - Thomas Laing and Margaret Russall married 1752
« on: Wednesday 27 July 16 10:21 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for descendants of Thomas Laing and Margaret Russall who married in Denny on 16th May 1752.  They had 9 children I believe. Peter 1753, James 1755, Lachlane 1757, Peter 1758, Margret 1760, Alexander 1762, Isobel 1765, Thomas 1767 & David in 1772 all born in Denny.

James I believe is my relative as his date and place of birth fit in with other sources but I cannot confirm Thomas & Margaret are his parents and wondered if anyone had more information on them or the family.

My James married Christian Campbell in Larbert in1783 and moved to Torryburn in Fife.

So looking for info to prove or disprove they are one and the same. Thanks Evelina

Inverness / Kilmuir Church Yard, Isle of Skye
« on: Saturday 14 May 16 09:05 BST (UK)  »
Kilmuir Church Yard, Isle of Skye. Can anyone tell me if this would be the Kilmuir and Stenscholl Church in the north of Skye.  Is it likely that someone living and dying in Roag would be buried an hour away?  All the dc states is Kilmuir Church Yard.  Any help would be appreciated. I know a lot of place names are duplicated on Skye so wondered if there was another Kilmuir.  Thanks Evellina

Worcestershire / William Edward Sherriff 1859-1930 - Police Superintendant
« on: Friday 05 February 16 15:06 GMT (UK)  »
Hi I am wondering if it is possible to get a picture of a policeman anywhere?  I have his police records and know where he served but I would think a Superintendant might appear in the newspapers or have an official picture somewhere.  He served in Worcestershire and Birmingham, and retired in 1920 in Malvern. Can anyone advise where to look, thanks Evellina

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Greenwich, London
« on: Saturday 10 October 15 10:37 BST (UK)  »
Just found out my Grand uncle was born in Greenwich.  The family is from Scotland but his father was working in England.  I was wondering if anyone could suggest where I might find a picture circa 1891 of 7 Nelson Building, Bridge Street, Greenwich. Thanks Evelina
