Worcestershire / Mary Reynolds of Kidderminster c1846
« on: Sunday 20 November 16 15:43 GMT (UK)  »
I would be grateful for help in tracing the birth of Mary Reynolds and the marriage of her parents.

According to every census, Mary Reynolds was born in Kidderminster c1846. However, I can't find a baptism or a registration.

Her father, George Reynolds, is probably the person married to Ann in 1841.
There are baptisms for Elizabeth in 1833, Maria in 1836 and William Henry in 1839.
Again, no registration for William Henry or further trace of him and Maria. There is a record for a William, son of Benjamin Reynolds and Ann Turberfield.

These are the census details. I have all of the descendants of Mary, and those of her half-sisters, Jane and Eliza:-

George Reynolds 25 b 1816 Out of County
Ann Reynolds 25 b 1816 Worcestershire
Elizabeth Reynolds 7 b 1834 Worcestershire

Ann probably died Q4 1847 age 32

George then married Jane Milner on 11th December 1849 in Stone

Lincolnshire / GRO Index update
« on: Saturday 05 November 16 11:24 GMT (UK)  »
In case this is new to anybody.

I had had an email to say that the GRO has amended its search facilities for births and deaths. Unfortunately, it doesn't include marriages, but might in the future

However, you can now search on mother's maiden names before 1911.

You need to register - http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

Leicestershire / Help with uniform please
« on: Thursday 17 March 16 10:30 GMT (UK)  »
I would be very grateful for help in identifying the uniforms in the attached photograph.

One of the people is my wife's ancestor, who would be mid-teens at the time, and the date of the picture probably 1912-14. He lived in Leicester all of his life and became a police constable after the war. It might be police or army cadets.

Many thanks,
David

Lancashire / Liverpool Mariner
« on: Tuesday 21 July 15 10:57 BST (UK)  »
The attached photographs are believed to be of my great grandfather, Thomas Brown (c1831 in Boston - 1903 in Liverpool).

The left-hand picture is by Foulds and Hibberd which is said to have been established in the Liverpool area in the 1890s.

The right-hand picture is by Brown Barnes Bell of 31 Bold Street, Liverpool, which existed at that address from c1877.

I can't find him in 1841 or 1851 but he is shown as a mariner when he married in 1856 and from 1861 to 1901. Because the name is so common, I have been unable to find any record of him as a mariner. I would therefore be very grateful for any help regarding the uniform and L.B.L. on his cap. There is an existing, but recently established, company of that name in Liverpool.

Lancashire / SS Missouri 1885 and 1886
« on: Friday 18 July 14 11:10 BST (UK)  »
My grandfather was on the ship 'SS Missouri' when it ran aground on the coast of Anglesey on 1st March 1886, whilst heading for Liverpool. All on board survived and it is now a diving site.

I have a copy of his discharge certificate and the passenger list when the ship arrived in Boston, USA, on 15th February 1886, but it doesn't list the crew.

I also have a copy of the passenger list for the ship's arrival in Boston on 13th May 1885 but, again, no crew. On 18th May, on the return journey, the ship saved all of the crew of the ship 'Themis', which had struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic. I don't know if my grandfather was on the ship during this trip and so I would be very grateful to know if a list of the crew might exit.

I was very grateful for the help on my previous posting and have two more from the same building.

I think they are dates from 15th or 16th centuries but am unable to understand them.

Many thanks,

David
