Hello Rootchaters

I am looking for information for Caroline Fox (maiden name Bulbeck) born in April 1846 in a village called Idsworth in Hampshire, England.
I have all the census, birth, death and marriage records for Caroline, her ascendants and decendants

I have details that she emigrated at the age of 66 to USA on the SS Oceanic arriving in New York on 6th March 1913.
She was travelling alone and her intended destination was Dubeque Iowa. The record states that she was meeting her Daughter Mrs Derrett/Durrett?
As far as my research goes she has not got a daughter who also emigrated or even married a Mr Derrett/Durrett?
I have had a short period of membership to Ancestry worldwide and can find no further records of Caroline, not even her death.
Can anyone help with United States records from 1913 onwards.
Thank you in advance for your time
Wendy (was Bulbeck)

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Double Baptism of Arthur Edward Bulbeck 1891 -1894
« on: Friday 03 November 17 18:15 GMT (UK)  »
Evening Rootchatters,
Just a quick couple of questions about a sad story.

Arthur Edward Bulbeck 1891-1894

My 2x great uncle was born on the 9th April 1891 in Southwick Sussex and was baptised there in the May of the same year. (select births and christenings)
The family obviously travelled for work and went to London and then to Portsmouth.
I had previously found the death of Arthur in Portsmouth Qtr 3 1894
Today I have found from new records for another baptism -
2nd July 1894 - Portsea, St Mark, St Saviour's Mission Church and the Ascension. This gave me his actual birth date. This is confirmed by his parents names and the address.

What I have found to be written in the margin is PRIVATE DIED.

Why a second baptism?
Would this have been written following his death?
Was it a private Baptism?
Could he have already died, or was he dying and was this more like the last rites and given at home?
Hope somebody can give me an explanation.
Kind Regards
Wendy

Alderney, Guernsey, Jersey, Sark / Stephen and Meloney Cook in Guernsey 1838-39?
« on: Thursday 29 October 15 16:02 GMT (UK)  »

Good afternoon Rootschatters

My Gt Gt GT Grandparents Stephen Cook b 1811 and Meloney Cook b 1808 were both born in Devon England and had their first 3 children in the Exeter area,
Thomas Cook b 1836
George Cook b 1837
James Cook b 1838

The 1841 census for Guernsey shows them all living in 9 Paris Street, St Peter Port, with additional children
Mary Cook b 1839
Elizabeth Esther Cook b. 1840
Meloney Cook b 1842 all born Guernsey

Stephen Cook's occupation is listed as a shipwright.

the 1851 census has them back in England living and working in Gosport, where they stayed.

What I would like to find out is exactly when they went to Guernsey which is obviously between the births of James and Mary and how long they stayed. Also the reason why they would have migrated  specifically to Guernsey. Was there a particular project underway that would require a shipwrights skills?
I will be posting in the look-up requests for the birth dates of the Guernsey born children.
Thank you in anticipation

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / BULBECK Please help find his family in 1901
« on: Thursday 16 October 14 21:22 BST (UK)  »
Good evening Rootschatters  ;)

I am hoping someone can help me find out where my Gt Gt Grandparents were in 1901. I have tried to find them on the 1901 census to no avail.

Albert William BULBECK b 7 Apr 1859 Blendworth, Hants
Eliza Bulbeck nee Blackmore b 1864 Lewes Sussex
son Albert Bulbeck b  19 March 1887 Havant Road, Portsmouth (home of his grandparents John and Ann Bulbeck)
son Arthur Edward 1891-1894
dau Alice Maud Bulbeck b Jan 1894 Lambeth London.

I have all census's needed up until 1891 and then any relevent 1911

Albert and Eliza married in 23 Jan 1888 St Marks Portsmouth (after Alberts birth)
1891 they are living in Southwick, Sussex  Albert William a labourer
1894  they are in Lambeth (from Alice Mauds baptism record) Albert William a Bricklayers labourer
1895 still in Lambeth (from electoral Roll)

Then there is the 1901 mystery

Albert marries in 1904 in Portsmouth, and is in Portsmouth in 1911
Alice Maud is in service in Portsmouth in 1911 and subsequently marries in 1914 also in Portsmouth.

Eliza Bulbeck marries James Trimmer in Portsmouth in 1902 so she must be widowed (James was possibly a friend of Albert William's as they were in the 107th foot regiment together in 1881)

I  found a death in Portsmouth for Albert William Bulbeck Sept 1901, there is a 3 year age discrepancy but I understand the age at death is down to the informant!
A breakthrough I thought as this will show his place of death and the name of the informant. Then I will be able to search for the address on the 1901 census.
No such luck I'm afraid >:( The certificate arrived today. He died of Syncope from Heart Disease -Natural Causes
The place of death was listed as 24 Brompton Road, Eastney Portsmouth on 28th July 1901. Occ General labourer. I searched the address on the 1901 and there were no Bulbecks there. The inhabitants were not even local people so not even a relative. The informant was the coroner as it was a sudden death so I am none the wiser about their whereabouts!

Out of Interest Albert William's Father John who died in 1904 is also missing in 1901 (he was a widower by then)

As Albert Williams death was sudden there was an inquest held on 31st July in Portsmouth.
Will I be able to access the inquest results and if so how do I go about it? also  will it give the name and address of the next of Kin?

Any help will be gratefully received

Thanks
Wendy (nee Bulbeck)

London and Middlesex / Help to find ROBERTS Gt Aunts and Uncles Please.
« on: Monday 20 August 12 17:33 BST (UK)  »
Hi Rootschattters.

I have some gaps in my tree and would be grateful for some fresh eyes to look for me!

Abraham James Roberts and Ann Savell married in Lewisham and subsequently had 9 children as confirmed by the 1911 census. The census stated that 5 of the children were no longer living.

Abraham James is sometimes transcribed as James and was a platelayer on the railway which is why I guess they had children in different boroughs.
Abraham James is missing from the 1871 census and family history says that he possibly went to work on the railways in India (yet to be proven) so might explain his absence.

From the 1911 census I have accounted for 6 children 3 of whom had already died which means that 2 of the 3 remianing died before 1911 and 1 has disappeared (or female married)
John Roberts b. Lewisham
1857 – 1932
 William Roberts b. Bromley
1858 – 1902
 Emily Roberts b. Plaistow
1860 –
 Edward Roberts b. Bermondsey
1862 –
 Mary Ann Roberts b. Croydon
1864 –

Louisa Emily Roberts b. Epsom
1867 – 1905
 Alfred Roberts b. Croydon
1868 – 1938
 Annie Roberts b. Islington
1879 – 1954
Carrey Roberts b. Clerkenwell d. St Pancras
1880 – 1882

Here is my problem I can't find Emily, Edward or Mary Ann's deaths or maybe one of the girls married!
Emily and Edward disappear after their 1862 baptisms
Mary Ann is in the 1871 census in Croydon but then I cant find her. I suppose she would have been old enough to marry before 1881.

I hope I have not confused you all too much ;D

Thank you in advance for looking

Kind Regards
Wendy

Good evening all from a soggy south of England!

Please can you be so kind to date this photo from the clothing.

It is proving a dilemma as the photo is dated 1895 the groom is named on the back but not his wife. This gent did marry in 1895 BUT apparently some of the children in the picture were not born until at least 1906  ???

Was this a second marriage that we are not aware of? So hopefully a date of the clothing will help.
Thanks in advance
