Yorkshire (West Riding) / Newspapers Leeds/Drighlington 1940's?
« on: Tuesday 30 September 08 19:01 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone point me in the right direction of a local newspaper title for the above?

Okay vague (is there any other type) details from the relatives........

End of 1942/begining of Jan 1943 there was "allegedly" a report of a trial for bigamy of Mr John Gamble (or Cyril Nelson) - culminating in his enlistment in the TA on 12 January 1943.

Is there anywhere that will have copies of the newspaper article or do I need to approach newspaper offices directly?

Many thanks for reading!   :)

Family History Beginners Board / Hi All - Newbie Alert!

 ;D  Evening all!

I was pointed to this site by a fellow dog forum member (Don't know her name on here) - thank you Gilly!

Have had a quick shufty through some of the posts and must say you do look a friendly lot!   ;D ;D  - I look forward to joining in!

I have started my family research and seemed to be progressing okay BUT - I have come across a couple of things I would like to delve a bit deeper into and don't know where to go from here, so any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

The first one is: My grandfather was found guilty of bigamy (somewhere around the mid 30's I think) and opted to enlist rather than go to prison.  My Aunt remembers it being in the local papers of the time - I would like to find this newspaper article AND once I find the exact date of his "conviction" would I be able to find details of the trial etc?

Also - further back I have a Master Mariner (retired) listed on a marriage certificate - how can I find out more about a Master Mariner?

Many thanks for reading
Jo
