Midlothian / John FREER, surgeon d;1857.
« on: Saturday 29 January 11 11:26 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, Can you help? trying to find parents, grandparents and if possible children of John FREER, below is information from Edinburgh University Archives, wanting to find if this John is in my family line.

Medical Directory (1854), he held the LRCSEd from here and the MD from the University of Edinburgh (both 1809). In 1854 he was working in Sutton Coldfield , near Birmingham (where he died in 1857), and had formerly been “Assistant Surgeon to the Royal North British Fusiliers, and Rifle Brigade, Waterloo”. However, according to the respected 1968 work "Medical Officers in the British Army 1660-1960" by Peterkin and Johnson, he had been “removed from the service on 3rd June 1824, for negligence and professional incapacity: two men who had each received 1000 lashes under his superintendence having died from the effects of the punishment.”

Not sure if this is in the right place, but here goes.
Trying to find the list of names/families during the time of William I and the Battle of Hastings.
Apparently there is a list of those William granted land to for thier loyalty in his battles, can someone show me where this list can be found?
Please and thank you.

Australia / The property of "Wallenbillen" NSW
« on: Thursday 09 December 10 00:46 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I have been struggling for some time with this one,
In family records of "Samuel Phillips" Molong NSW in the late half of 1800's,
he owned the property called (then) "Wallenbillen" it is also recorded that he had the first brick house built in Molong at this property, but it also says "on the Bogan river" the Bogan river is some 100kms away from Molong, so Molong must have covered a very large region at the time, it was 16,000 acres with a 7 mile front on the river and 10 mile back, and was a cattle and sheep fattening station, this property I would think is/was near Peak Hill, being on the Newell Hwy, the property was up for sale in 1863/4, sale was being done at a Sydney venue, eventually being sold off in 1888, my problem is that the local councils of the area cannot identify the property of have the name on historical records.
Does anyone know of it and where it was situated???

Story I was given years ago was that Richard was a bit of a psrty boy and liked his women, may have fooled around some and son John got fed up with the bad reputation and relocated to possibly Bitton/Bath/Hanham area.

Australia / LEAR, Veronica
« on: Saturday 04 September 10 14:38 BST (UK)  »
Veronica Mae Lear  (widow of Harold Bernard Lear who died at Sandakan).     I knew she had gone to the USA.    What I found was that she had not married a US soldier but emigrated under her Lear name in 1947  (PanAm air manifest found).      She was naturalised in 1957 still under the Lear name.      Her story could be very interesting.     Why migrate and why not remarry?      Did she follow anyone to the USA?

Can you help?
