Hi rootschatters, I have been researching my Higgs ancestors from the Trysull area and wondered if anyone is connected to the names listed in my title?

My line goes back to the Pratt family, and my ancestor Henry Pratt made his will in 1698 which was witnessed by Thomas Pudsey, Thomas Wollaston and William Barnsley jnr. He named Thomas Pudsey in the will as his 'loving friend' along with a Thomas Pratt of Bellington?

I have looked at the will of Elizabeth Barnsley of Trysull also dated 1698 where she lists relatives including her Pratt 'cousins' (sons and daughters of her brother Pratt) I'm assuming bro in law here, and they are named as Thomas, James, Samuel, Jeremiah, Josiah, Andrew, Margaret Kors?, and Sarah.

I am not sure how these all add up together, but any info and suggestions would be helpful, thanks.

The Common Room / Beebee, Bilston and London
« on: Thursday 03 November 11 15:23 GMT (UK)  »
Hi rootschatters, been doing a lot on my Beebee line recently and it's unravelling slowly but need a bit of help with a couple of ancestors please.

Starting with Thomas Beebee born c.1748 Bilston, Staffs and his 2nd wife Mary Moore. They married St Thomas Dudley 28 March 1773 and then at some point moved to London. (Thomas was a widower and previously had 3 children born in Bilston.)

I have the following...

Thomas Moss Beebee b.8 March and ch.12 March 1778 St Gregory by St Paul, London son of Thomas and Mary Beebee. As of yet I don't know the significance of the middle name Moss, but it is passed on through successive later generations.

Then found 3 children christened at Christ Church Southwark, pages are damaged but ancestry says between 1770-1789. Parents Thomas and Mary Beebee, Thomas - a plater.

Edward, John and Elizabeth

Elizabeth buried 4 May 1779 Christ Church, Southwark. I haven't been able to find what happened to John?

After this the family must have all moved back to Bilston as they had two more children,
Richard Moor Beebee ch. 12 Apr 1784 Bilston and
Mary Beebee ch. 1 Aug 1785 Bilston

In 1818 Parson and Bradshaw Trade directory the family were listed as living High St, Bilston.
Thomas and co. Tin plate workers (the father presumably)
Thomas, grocer and maltster
Edward, victualler and stone mason, seven stars
George , tailor (eldest son from 1st marriage)

Richard however, appears to have gone to London some time after he had his last child born in Bilston (Richard Moore Beebee jnr b.1808) as he was buried there,
Richard Moor Beebee, buried 26 Feb 1815 Christ Church, Southwark
aged 29, abode Old Bailey - did they still have family? connections there?

Ok, I'm starting again on my great x2 grandad Thomas Wilcox, who married and lived in Shrewsbury but I think was born Montgomery. I would like help in finding out definitely where he was born and who his parents were if possible. I have some theories lol, but might be wrong.

The marriage certificate gives the following details:

Elizabeth Silver - 24yrs - spinster - cook - 52 abbey foregate - father:William Silver, baker
witnesses - Samuel Wilcox/Mary Wilcox

So from this we assume he was born around 1854? (I'll go backwards with what I have on him, for definite now..)

1911 census 2 Cross Row, Shrewsbury
Thomas Wilcox 59 head widow labourer Marton, Shropshire
William Wilcox 28 son single labourer Shrewsbury
Samuel Wilcox 21 son single labourer Shrewsbury

1901 5 Cross Row, Shrewsbury
Thomas Wilcox h widow 48 farm labourer Welshpool, Montgomery
Elizabeth Wilcox daug 20
William Wilcox son 17
Edward Wilcox son 12

(all rest born shrewsbury)

more to follow

1891 Gladston Farm? Shrewsbury
Thomas Wilcox h 41 Farm Bailiff Salop, Stanton (Marton?)
Elizabeth Wilcox w 33 Cheshire, New Brighton
Elizabeth Wilcox daug 9
William T Wilcox son 8
Charles E Wilcox son 3
Samuel J Wilcox son 1
(rest born shrewsbury)

1881 6 Church Terrace, Shrewsbury
Thomas Leeke h 22 malster Berwick, Salop
Mary Ann Leeke w 22 Bilston, Staffordshire
Richard Leeke s 10mths shrewsbury

Elizabeth Wilcox wife 24 Liverpool

London and Middlesex / help please, pain in the 'Butt'? lol
« on: Saturday 10 January 09 21:49 GMT (UK)  »
All jokes aside I'd really like some help with my Silver family from Enfield. I have them on all the census, and in 1871 there appears with them an Elizabeth Butt, neice to the head Charles Silver.

1871 Green Street, Enfield, Middlesex
Charles J Silver h wdr 84 Master Baker
Ann Silver daug un 50
Emma Silver daug un 25
Alfred Silver grandson un 24 Clerk
William Sproat grandson un 16 Clerk
Elizabeth Butt neice un 30
James Barretts mar 50 Baker
Charles Mason un 19 Baker

all born Enfield according to census image

Now, I don't know Charles J Silver's parents. His wife was Sarah Martin and her parents were named Chenery Martin and Charlotte Roker.

The daughter Ann Silver's middle name was Dawson. I am not sure where that comes from although there was a Richard Dawson mentioned in Chenery Martin's will. Chenery was the landlord of the Black Horse Inn, Enfield Highway which is still in existence as a pub today. My uncle visited there and the current owners are a turkish family. They don't know anything about the history of the pub.

Please help me find who Elizabeth Butt was? And anything really about the family. Thank you.

I checked the middle names site IGI and found a couple of interesting bits. They may not be relevant though.

Thomas Dawson Silver ch. 15 feb 1818, St Clement Danes, Westminster, London
Parents Thomas Dawson and Harriott

also a William Silver Budd married Emily Williams (maybe Elizabeth is a Budd?)
15 dec 1878 Saint Bartholomew the great, London

Staffordshire / Simkiss/Humphreyson/Rowley/Tolley - Pattingham
« on: Friday 05 December 08 19:44 GMT (UK)  »
Is anyone researching ancestors from Pattingham? Haven't seen the place mentioned much on these boards.

I'm trying to sort out the connections between the family names I've used in the title and they are connected to the Humphreysons which I think were from Pattingham. There are many variations of the name Humphreyson including Humphryson, Humphreson, Humphrason, Humpherson... gets confusing!

I will post in more detail shortly...

The Common Room / Stephen Winckworth Silver (clutching at straws?!)
« on: Thursday 14 August 08 12:06 BST (UK)  »
I only came across this interesting man while researching my Silver family who were Bakers in Enfield, Middlesex.

I am wondering if there is a possible connection with him, as my ancestor Charles Joseph Silver born c1791 had a grandson named Septimus Silver (unusual name).

The only other Septimus Silver I have found any record of on the census or freebmd, was a son of Stephen Winckworth Silver. Stephen's son attended Oxford uni, and died in 1854.

My Septimus Silver was born in Cheshunt about 1853, and died in 1870. aged 17.

There is some info on Stephen Winckworth Silver here - http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=42755

I would appreciate any thoughts, or help to establish a connection between the families. Many thanks. I know there are lots of you who enjoy a puzzle!

Worcestershire Lookup Requests / dudley marriage 1773
« on: Tuesday 24 June 08 19:27 BST (UK)  »
I have found a marriage record on the igi but it is an LDS member submission so I'm aware it may not be accurate, it says:

Thomas Beebee married Mary Moore, 28 Mar 1773, Dudley, Worcester.

Was wondering if anyone has access to Dudley parish records and could possibly check for such an entry please? Not sure if this would refer to St Thomas' or not?

Many thanks for any help. I am searching for the parents of a Richard Moor Beebee, son of Thomas and Mary Beebee christened at Bilston 12 Apr 1784 and I thought perhaps the above might be his parents?
