In my Mcpherson line everything fits except that date! Does anyone have access to the original record to see if there is any possibility of a transcription error? Thanks.

The Common Room / Conundrum - logic makes nonsense of the facts or not?
« on: Sunday 17 December 23 12:00 GMT (UK)  »
From iving fmily members i obtained information that my Mary Ann Knight b 1821 Hampton Wick dies in 1901. She married Thomas Hale from Stanstead Abbotts and lived in Brentford. Up until 1850 her children are recorded as having  mother "Mary Ann". After 1850 the mother is recorded as Sarah.

Did Mary Ann die  and Thomas remarry or is this a name thing with two other Mary Ann's in the immediate family (her mother and daughter)? Census after 1850 showed a consistent birth of 1824. i can't find her in 1841 - she's not witht he rest of the family.

There is a death of a "Mary" at the right time Brentford but not "Mary Ann". There is also a marriage in London of a Thomas Hale to a "Sarah" at the right time (also from Hampron Wick) and he recorded as a Market Gargener which he was.

Logic says she died and he remarried yet family say Mary Ann lived until 1901. What to believe? Thanks

Hi All,

I wonder if someone can help me find the death of William Henry Hutchinson, born 1834 Crowhurst, Sussex, last known living residence 7 Croydon St, Marylebone in 1896. His occupation was a butler which took him all over the country having worked in London, Richmond, Kent, Wellingborough, Manchester, Brighton, Nottinghamshire.

I've searched and searched. Marylebone seems the most likely as his son Frederick Harry married a neighbour Louisa Muchmore in Croydon St but who knows! If anyone can help or direct me to resources I would be very grateful. Thank you.

The Common Room / Return of early Colonists to England.....any resources to search?
« on: Thursday 19 April 18 01:42 BST (UK)  »
Hello! I am of the opinion that my Hutchinson ancestors were early colonists to the USA and returned around 1700 and settled in the south-east of England. Most Hutch's are from the North and early settlers to the colonies developed a huge Hutch family in the Boston, Mass area. Miss Philadelphia Hutchinson may also be a clue and a touch of Native American in the DNA (pinch of salt). If anyone knows where I could search for returnees I would be very grateful. Thanks.

My ancestor Josiah Price (coal porter) was killed in a railway accident in Stratford, London 1867, which orphaned his two daughters (one my GGMother) I wondered if it was the same Josiah Price (coal porter) as the Coroners report September 4th 1869, page 3 in London Stratford Times And Bow And Bromley News And South Essex Gazette. It would be great if someone can check for me. There is a tantalizing except in Google Search...I, io:ham, deputy coroner for W'csi i : : i|iU-. on the Ih. :of Josiah Price, a coal ]inrt'r. ii'ci i''i. wi. ... After the occurrence at St. I'aul's witness saw him in St. Bartholomew's Hospital, Ho said, “ Did you hear of tha accident I met with in reply to a juror, the witness said he felt certain tliat his father used the word “ accident...."

I found this in Railway Archives but no names "A party of men in the employ of Messrs. Waring were engaged in loading rails on to a lorry which stood upon the siding about 30 yards from the facing points; and the driver of the 5h. 50m. p.m. down goods train, which consisted of a tank engine, a two empty and 27 loaded waggons, and a break van, approached Old Ford station, he found the signals were all right for him to proceed, and about 10 yards before he reached the points he noticed that they were open for the siding, and he immediately whistled, shut the regulator, and called out to the men who were engaged in loading the lorry, who, with the exception of two that were on the lorry, had time to get out of the way. The engine of the train, which is supposed to have been running at from 15 to 20 miles an hour, ran against the lorry and broke it to pieces, killing one of the two men and injuring another so much that he has subsequently died. The engine then continued its course along the siding, and next came in contact with a truck of bricks, and was thrown off the rails, and subsequently came in contact with the tender of the ballast engine."

Thanks in advance!

Aberdeenshire / McPherson, Cairnie by Huntly
« on: Tuesday 13 February 18 14:18 GMT (UK)  »
If anyone has any information on the McPhersons, Cairnie by Huntly, 1800 and before, I would love to hear.

I am piecing the information from FamilySearch but there seems to be big gaps.  My ancestor is George McPherson b 1785, the son of William and Elizabeth Moir. Thank you in advance.

The Common Room / Hulk ship..conjugal rights or hanky panky?
« on: Saturday 03 February 18 04:43 GMT (UK)  »
So my ancestor was sentenced to 10 years transportation on the hulk Stirling Castle in Devonport, 1838. The child born 1839 is feasible, as is the one born 1849....but the one born 1844? In 1851 Mum is with a new spouse, who coincidentally was in the same lodging house in 1841. So is there any chance of a conjugal visit or do I assume the Father was the new spouse? Thanks in advance.
