London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Charles Arnold 1861 Census
« on: Sunday 14 September 14 10:36 BST (UK)  »
Is anyone able to find the full record of:
Charles Arnold 23 Barge Builder Labourer Middlesex 1838 Allen Devon
from the 1861 Census.

I was able to find this record on a free search at thegenealogist.co.uk but never accessed the full record. I now have membership at Findmypast but this record doesn't show up at all - very confusing.

I'm looking for a lighterman named Charles Arnold who married Ann Maria Hall (nee Pocock) in 1862 in Hounslow. His father was also named Charles Arnold and was a carpenter. Hopefully this is the right person!

Thanks in advance :)

Surrey / Anslow Butcher
« on: Thursday 01 May 14 12:28 BST (UK)  »
With such an unusual name I was sure that I would be able to find some information on a very great-grandmother of mine Anslow Butcher - but no luck so far on finding out where she came from...

She married John Worley on 13 May 1807, St Mary Magdalen and they had 8 children. I am descended from her daughter Jane Louisa (1819-1899).

If anyone is able to find any information on her (death, baptism, parents etc) - would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / John Crossley marriage
« on: Thursday 01 May 14 12:23 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm looking for the first marriage of John Crossley (1776/1786 - bef 1845). He married Ann Shifton on 29 Jan 1835 at St Clement Danes as a widower.

I have one possibility for an earlier marriage - but lack enough info to confirm it:
Name:    John Crossley
Spouse's Name:    Hannah Litherland
Event Date:    1820
Event Place:    Longford, Derbyshire, England
Indexing Project (Batch) Number:    M05549-2
System Origin:    England-VR
GS Film number:    496705
Reference ID:    2:3CKMB8L

John was the son of John and Mary Crossley of Hollington/Brailsford, Derbyshire.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!  :)

I'm looking for the baptism record of William Irwin. According to his wife's memorial inscription he died on 12 Aug 1840 at the age of 68 - meaning that he was born c.1772. I've had no luck so far finding him so help would be appreciated! He was also apparently buried at this parish church (and not with his wife who outlived him by 31 years) - is anyone able to find the record of his death/burial? I'm also looking for children of him and his wife (Mary Crossley) as so far I've only found two: William (1808-1883) and Selina (1822-1907).

Thanks!

Leicestershire Lookup Requests / William Crossley Irwin - census records
« on: Tuesday 29 April 14 12:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm looking for William Crossley Irwin (born 1808, Leicester) in the 1851, 1861 census records. According to the 1871 census he was married to Mary Ann (born c. 1835 Chalfont, Buckinghamshire) but as I haven't been able to find the right marriage record I'm not sure when that marriage took place. I'm trying to see if this was his second marriage...
He was a surgeon/physician.

Thanks!

Leicestershire / William Irwin, merchant, of p. of St Margaret. Leicester
« on: Tuesday 29 April 14 11:09 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking for any information on William Irwin.

I know that he married Mary Crossley (1783-1871) on 4 Nov 1807 Brailsford, Derbyshire and that he is referred to as a merchant from the parish of St Margaret, Leicester.
I also know that he died on 12 Aug 1840 at the age of 68 which means that he was born around 1772 as his widow's memorial inscription states:
 William IRWIN, 12 Aug 1840, 68
Interred at St Margaret's Church, Leicester,
Mary, relict, interred in this vault,
25 Sept 1871, 88

William and Mary had two children (that I've found): William (1808-1883) and Selina (1822-1907). There's a huge gap between these two so there's a high probability that there were more children.

Does anyone have any clues on William's parentage and possible baptism records that may clear up this mystery?

Devon / John Pope/Priscilla James
« on: Monday 28 April 14 22:32 BST (UK)  »
So I have managed to entirely confuse myself with all the scraps of possible information I've collected on this family  ???

So the 'facts' that seem to make sense are these:
- John Pope married Priscilla James on 27 April 1831, Saint Mary Steps, Exeter, Devon
- John & Priscilla had eight children
1. John James (1832 - died young)
2. William (1833-)
3. John (1835-)
4. Mary Jane (1838-)
5. Ellen (1842-)
6. Sarah Frances (1844-1914)
7. George Alexander (1847-1895)
8. Elizabeth (1852-)

I made a note that John Pope could be found in the 1841 census at Lead House Lane, Bristol St. Philip And St. Jacob, Gloucestershire, England as a Maltster Journeyman (but without his wife and children). He is a Maltster at 25 Unity Street Bristol, St. Philip & Jacob Within, Bristol, Gloucestershire, England in 1861 and in Lambeth, London in 1871.

I have three possible parents for him, based on his birthdate - but what I lack are copies of the census records where he appears (somehow I didn't save these records). Would it be possible for someone to send them to me? Or, even better, does someone know definitely who his parents were?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks  :)

England / Italian Count?
« on: Saturday 01 June 13 17:36 BST (UK)  »
So my family has a story about a distant relative marrying an Italian Count and I was wondering if anyone had a way to prove or disprove this?
I've found the marriage between the parties: In 1931, London, Ruth Mary Mould (1904-1997) married Giovanni Parrilli.
According to the story, he was one of many given honours under the Italian government post WWI... or something like that. I haven't been able to find out any more information on him.

Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks

Cambridgeshire / Dawson/Ingle mystery
« on: Friday 31 May 13 17:04 BST (UK)  »
So one of my sets of great-great etc grandparents are William Thomas Ingle (1808-1856) and Elizabeth Dawson (1808-1879). However, I have very little information on them. Apparently Elizabeth's father was John and she and William were second cousins but I don't have any other information on either of their ancestors. William and Elizabeth were married at St Martin in the Fields on 6 Mar 1836 and had twins in London who died (Honoria Ewing and Timothy Ewing) as well as my ancestor Amelia. They then moved to Cambridge where they had several other children (Hannah, Elisabeth, Margaret, Jane, William) before immigrating to South Africa around 1848. They appear on the 1841 Census, but not on the 1851 one. It appears that "Ewing" is a family name but I can't source this either.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.
