Occupation Interests / Re: Excise officers
« on: Monday 20 February 17 21:08 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks for the steer on this.  Sadly I only found 2 index references to my Excise Officer, Dudley Hussey (1786-1852).  I know from House of Commons Parliamentary Papers that he retired from Excise in 1838 having served for 34 years.  (I got a look-up on the 2 entries and they were both transfers - Wexford to Waterford in 1833 and Waterford to Enniscorthy in 1838).

Anyone any thoughts/suggestions?

Hi Natalietysoe,

I tried sending you a personal message but apparently your inbox is full.

I think you need to have made 3 posts on Rootschat before you can send PMs.

Anyway, let me know when you've sorted out your inbox and I will send you my email address.

Kind regards,

Simon.

Thanks to mwylie for the contribution to the thread.  And to all other contributors.

I found the answer to all this mess late last year when I got the Death Register entry for William Hussey (d. Belfast 1940) from PRONI.

Although the entry was for WILLIAM Hussey, (Labourer), his wife Laura Adelaide Anderson had 3 years later provided documentation to have it revised to Dudley De Vere Hawthorne Hussey, (Ex-Serviceman).  Thus proving once and for all that William Jnr. and Dudley were one and the same person.

There have been a number of previous threads on Forrests of Co. Cork.  Have you consulted those?  They may be of use.

Did you navigate to new/updated records? It's under 'Ireland' there.  Or if you leave 'All Countries' there its the 4th and 5th ones down.  Only uploaded yesterday

Take the chap on the left of this post!  The 1st ever secretary of Bohemians Football Club, and 1st ever secretary of the Leinster Football Association (the pre-cursor to the modern-day FAI)! A historic figure some might say!  But forever to be known on the National Archives website as Dually Hussey!  Dually!  Is that even a name???  ::)

Yes, but if your tree is uploaded to Ancestry (which is free), its nice to be able to attach the "Web" record - which is also free...

Oh, and if you are aware of errors in the National Archives index, you can INSTANTLY (and for free!) add your correction to Ancestry - unlike the National Archives site, where user corrections made (on the day the Census was originally uploaded!) are STILL not incorporated!

1901, 1911 and Guiness Archive indexes added to Ancestry.

Same index as the National Archives, (complete with unresolved errors!)
