Hi Trish

Thanks for all of these - much appreciated.  Gives me lots more avenues to explore.  I've found the ones I already knew about difficult to track down in various censuses.  I'm guessing it because they were moving around, and it may have given them a greater opportunity to avoid being recorded.

Hi Boo

I found one published on Friday 14th May, which I took a photo of (didn't have a pen on me!). I was going to add it as an attachment, but can't figure out how to do that so this is me copying the text from the photo and pasting it in!

"QUARRIE

received La Sagesse

Convent Chapel. Tuesday

If that doesn't make sense let me know and I'll transcribe it for you.

Hi Franco

I'm so sorry not to have replied to this before - I've not been on here for a while and for some reason I didn't get a notification. Anyway, this is amazing! I'd given up hope of finding anything more about Ann, as I'd not thought to check if there was any different information available on baptism records.  It's opened up a whole new avenue for me to explore so thank you, I really appreciate it.

And I hope the dose of COVID didn't leave you with any long lasting symptoms.

Thank you all - good to know I'm not going quite as mad as I thought!

It sounds a bit stupid, but can I ask how you're getting the options for "birth county" "registration district" and "parish" please? I'm selecting "search" from the main menu, then "census, land and surveys" and I'm only getting the options shown in the attached screenshot. I'm using an Android, but I've tried setting it to desktop mode as well, in case it was a display issue, but I still only get these options.

Thanks for these suggestions.
I've used the address search for 1891 and found the family name has been mistranscribed, so I've submitted corrections.

I can't use address search for 1901, as it's the name of a house where she was in service. I searched under the details of the head of the household, Arthur Benson, born 1853, living in Buckinghamshire, and added the name "Ada" (one of his daughters) as another person in the house. It brings up the correct record, and lists my ancestor as Ellen L Grove, born 1875 in Wandsworth, employed as a parlourmaid.

But then when I search using the details "Ellen L Grove, year of birth 1875, place of residence Buckinghamshire" it finds no records! And I did try clearing my cookies between searches as I've found FindMyPast is being a bit glitchy. Do they not make details of servants searchable or something?

Census and Resource Discussion / Records missing from Find my past?
« on: Saturday 12 November 22 11:04 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I've been searching Find My Past, and I've discovered that numbers of census records for some of my family members are simply not showing up on there (I've found them on Ancestry).  Is this a known problem?  Or am I simply going mad?

Thanks

Graveyards and Gravestones / Re: Query about non-conformist burial registration
« on: Monday 10 February 20 14:04 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Mean_genie

Thanks for this - the record I found was an Ancestry one, so it's looking like the child is the one I'm looking for, but almost certainly not as a Non-Conformist burial.  I'll go back & have a closer look at the record to see if I can see any indication that it was consecrated - as per Chris's suggestion.

Hi Guy

I've no proof at all the child was a non-conformist.  As I said, all the other records I can find for the family indicate they belonged to the Church of England.  I just have this one record that's come up which seems to match this child in every other way - and I wondered if Non-Conformists graveyards ever accepted members of other religions for burial (in which case the child might be the one I'm looking for) or if it is more likely to be one of those cases where all the information seems to match, but it's not the right person!
