Without further evidence that the Bourke family members on the Canton are in fact connected, I can only speculate, but if so, they would have come from Co. Tipperary. John (b abt 1800) and his wife (possibly Bridget and also b abt 1800) Patrick (b abt 1825). The other family names are not recorded or known and this is the only commonality with the known Bourke family members. It is known that Patrick Bourke (b1825) was present in Victoria during the 1850's goldfields time and later came to New Zealand where he attended the Otago goldrush, before later farming in Taranaki where he died in 1907.

Thank you for the replies, it does seem from later page reports in the Adelaide Observer of 1 Aug 1846 that some passengers on the Canton originated from famine ridden Co.Tipperary, which was my hope, but these accounts were not attributed.

Looking for any more information (age or county) regarding the passengers, particularily the Bourke family, to Adelaide on the Canton which arrived 31 July 1846 from London via Plymouth?
