Mayo / Staunton Family Castlebar
« on: Friday 08 August 14 19:54 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I am looking for information on the Staunton family of Manulla, Castlebar, Co. Mayo.  I really do not know much about them, other than my Great-Grandfather Ulick Staunton moved to Lurgan, N. Ireland at the time of Partition.  He was a member of the Royal Irish Constabulary, and was offered unemployment or a place in the Royal Ulster Constabulary at Partition.

I think his father was William Staunton.  I'd love to know more about them.  About the land they lived on, what it was worth, who else was in the family etc.

World War One / Sydney Joseph Harwood

I am looking for information on my great grandfathers military career during WW1.  He was born Sydney Joseph Harwood in June 1895, St. Saviour London.  I have been told that he survived the war, and I have been told that at the end of the war he was a stretcher bearer but other than that I do not know very much at all.  I'd love to know more about his regiment, ranking, where he was posted.

If anyone could help, i'd be very grateful.

London and Middlesex / Eliza Harwood

Hello,

This may be a bit of a long shot.  I am on the hunt for my 3xgreat grandmother Eliza Harwood.

Here is what I know about her so far.  She was born 1852/3 in St. Leonard's, Hastings, Sussex to John and Frances Harwood, the youngest of 6 children.  In February 1869 she is admitted to the Union Workhouse, Ore, Sussex where she gave birth to a child called John Henry Harwood.  No father is listed on the birth certificate.  The family story goes, she left the child with her parents and disappeared to London and wasn't heard from again.  That seems to be true as the 1871 census shows her as living in Highgate Penitentiary for fallen women (AKA North Hill House) all of which ties in with what I know about her.

However after the 1871 census the trail goes cold, and I have no idea what happened to her.  If anyone is able to help me, I would be very grateful

Many Thanks
