London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Unusual surname
« on: Tuesday 31 January 17 01:06 GMT (UK)  »
My friend is searching for the parents of Euphemia Greenhousy, born 1795-1800, possibly in London. She's looked everywhere, and despite the name being quite unusual, can find no trace of the parents. She married Ernest Henry Miller, and one son William Charles, came out to Australia.
I do hope someone can help,
Thank you.

Hi,

Where would I look for Adoptions that took place in NSW and VIC 1920-1930?

Thank you so much for responding to such an old message. I had been helping a number of people at our community centre with their family history, so will have to go back over my paperwork to see who this particular family belonged to. I'm sure they will be delighted to have a lead!
Thank you again,
Pauline

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Re: Crazy Mixed up 1911 census!

Hi Dave,
It was interesting to hear of your relative doing the same thing. I was trying to imagine how it must have been for my Henry - working all day down the mine, then coming back to a badly lit home, and as you said, the instructions may have seemed quite complicated. But I have been grateful as I was able to work out which one of their children had died - young James at less than a year old. I guess they were very fortunate to have lost only one child out of fifteen. One of their sons married a girl who had lost six out of seven other siblings. It makes you wonder how the parents coped with all that grief.
Thank's Dave, it was good to hear from you,
Pauline

Aha crisane - I see it all now! ;D
Thank you so much for clearing that up for me, and also for the two daughters married names. It all goes to show that two heads are better than one!
Thank you again,

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Crazy Mixed up 1911 census!
« on: Wednesday 05 June 13 03:34 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone please explain to me this census please?
Henry and Emma Cadman living Windmill? Sq Masboro Rotherham, married 34 yrs, 15 children, 14 still living. He has 15 "sons and daughters" listed with him (one at least must be a grandchild) most of them are definitely his and Emmas children according to my tree, but even the married daughters are listed as "Cadmans" though they are shown as having been married many years, with children! ???
Then at the bottom of the page I see they only have four rooms, with a total of five people living in them.   ::)
Has anyone any idea of what was going on in Henry Cadmans brain please, because I am totally confused?

Thank you Mabel and Fusion for that help - I never thought of looking for a Fanny!
I'll do that research you suggested Fusion - and I agree the mortality rate for that name in Rotherham is extremely high going by the free BMD. Poor Charlotte was 16 when she died - the only one I have found with any certainty.
Ever onwards!
Thanks again,
Pauline

I have just returned from the UK after finding a missing first cousin! It was a wonderful first meeting but she knows very little about her mothers side of the family, so I have been doing some searching. I have her grandmothers name, Eliza Ellen Millington,b1895 Rotherham, and the g. grandparents names, Joseph Millington and Francis/Frances (Unknown)b.1859 and 1861 respectively, again in Rotherham.
There is a 1901 census with them boarding with a Pickering family, and with four daughters, then a 1911 census in Rotherham where the number of years married is not stated. Sadly it shows of the 8 children born to them, only two are living, Eliza Ellen and a Louisa.
I can't find the vital 1891 census which would possibly give me more of the childrens names, and enable me to also find their deaths.
I'd be grateful for any help with this family,
Thank you

Hi silvery - I just looked up that Rotherham site you gave me, and it was fantastic. Spedding's son Henry was a very fortunate man - his father left him £110,00!!!
