Hi Carol,
Thanks for taking the time to check this out and reply to me. Oh Dear! first I can't find one John Lant, and now I may have three! Do you think a trip up to Derby's Local Record Office would help?
Thanks again.
Adrian.

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / John Lant

Hi.
I am trying to trace my relation John Lant. The IGI gives a John Lant born at Edensor 3/11/1745. This is just about right. Unfortunately, having bought a disk "Edinsor Parish records" by Valerie Neal, it shows this date to be a William Lant, not John. I know the IGI can be unreliable at times and it would save me a long drive if some one could check for me.
Thanks
Adrian

Hi John
I have been using IGI for years but have never used it in that way. You learn something all the time! Thanks again for your time and efforts.

Hello Spendlove.
I can't find any direct link as yet, but they are so close, I am sure there must be one. I have made a visit to the site you listed and noted some information for the future.
Thanks for your help
Adrian.

Hello John.
No apology necessary, indeed jut the opposite, I am indebted to you for your help.
I will bring my caravan up to Chatsworth House during the summer and try to look at the parish records for myself. Where did you get your information from?
Thanks again for your help.
Adrian

Hello John
The John Lant I am trying to trace was living in the small villiage of Ellington, Huntingdon at the time of the birth of his first child (as far as I know) in 1775. His wife's name was Elizabeth who's maiden name I do not know. A clue might lie in the middle name of his daughter Ann Cooper Lant. The couple were not from, or married in Huntingdon. I am guessing he was born 1745/50 and married 1773/4. There were a number of Lants in the North East of Huntingdon, but at this time I do not know if they were related to him. Another Lant - Thomas came to Easton (a small village 3 miles from Ellington) and married in 1780, but I have found no further trace of him. Was he a brother?
I found (and you have confirmed) that John from Edensor had a younger brother Thomas. Had the surname been Smith all this conjecture would mean very little but as the England and Wales Census of 1841 (100 years after his birth) gives the total number of Lants as only 197 people, it makes it all the more possible. Could you please give me the names of the siblings with their baptism dates so I may see if any of the others were in Huntingdon. Do you know where I can look to find a marriage for John? Your help is greatly appreciated as I have been stuck for John Lants birth place for over four Years :-[
Thanks Adrian Lant

Hi Karenlee
Sorry for the delay in answering your very fast response. This may well be the same John Lant. The 1841 Census only gives 197 people with the surname Lant in England and Wales so it would be a great coincidence. If this is indeed so, it means that it he is not the John Lant I was looking for as "mine" was in Huntingdon after 1875. Still it's a result! I will have to look further into Lants at Finchley as some 60 years later, my Gt. Gt. Grandfather was born there - another coincidence!
Thanks once again for your help.
