Yorkshire (West Riding) / Re: Nursing Home doncaster 1950's
« on: Sunday 12 June 22 14:52 BST (UK)  »
Hello

I was born in the Abiel Nursing Home in Doncaster. It was situated on Thorne Road but I cannot remember the number. I think it composed of 2, 3 storey, semidetached houses which I know are still there and are near to the junction of Thorne Road and Town Moor Avenue. Your brother would have been buried in the Rosehill cemetery in Doncaster and they should be able to help you with any more details if you contact them.
Sorry I can't be more help to you. The Doncaster Archives and Local Studies department are to open later this year and they should be able to give you more information about the Abiel Nursing Home etc.

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) / Re: John Cope Beverley 1807
« on: Wednesday 02 February 22 12:50 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks for the replies from you both.

I have not managed to find him on a census or found another marriage for him but I do still keep trying.

I have seen the tree on line and I know that the Nancy/Ann who died in 1864 aged 45  Barnsley is a wife of Joseph Cope born 1811, and the age is incorrect with the Ann/Nancy Swaby who married in 1807.

My dilemma is that I cannot prove where John was born so cannot use the birth in Pontefract.

I don't know anywhere else to look for John and was hoping that someone might be able to suggest other records. But I do realise that I am probably never going to find out more about him.

Thank you again for helping.

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) / John Cope Beverley 1807
« on: Tuesday 01 February 22 18:32 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for any information about John Cope in Beverley.

He married Ann (Swaby) 12 July 1807 in Beverley

They had 3 children Grace 1808, John 1809 and Joseph 1811 all baptised in Beverley.

Ann was buried at Beverley St John 8 July 1814 aged 26

Grace remained in the Beverley area.

John and Joseph were next found in Barnsley where they both married.

Looking for any information regarding John senior such as, where he was born, or what happened to him, after his wife died in 1814.

Any help will be very much appreciated.
Thanks

Derbyshire / Re: Ridge family in Heage 1600 -1800

Hi Spendlove

Thanks again for all the information.

I am in the process of documenting the baptism, marriages and burials of the Ridge family in Heage and Duffield along with marriage licences and wills so that is keeping me busy. Now all I have to do is to try and sort them into families which is proving to be easier said than done but no one ever said that family research was easy did they? But it is reassuring to know that there is evidence of the family being in Heage in the 1600s.

Thank you again for all your help

Thank you so much for your help.

I will try to look through everything this weekend and try to make some sense of it all!

I think that it looks as if my 'Ridge' family will turn out to be one of my many 'dead ends' as I seem to be unable to find the baptisms for Edward and Thomas but I will keep trying,

Thank you both again. Any help is very much appreciated.

Derbyshire / Ridge family in Heage 1600 -1800
« on: Tuesday 01 June 21 15:21 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for any information about the Ridge family in Heage especially Martha Ridge born c1700. She married Abraham Harrison in 1743 and then Thomas Litchfield in 1754. I have discounted the Martha Ridge born in Mackworth c1724, a daughter of Rafe Ridge, as I have found her burial in Mackworth.

Martha is mentioned in 2 wills

1749 Thomas Ridge names a daughter named Martha Harrrison and a son named David Ridge and other children.

1784 David Ridge mentions his sister Martha wife of Abraham Harrison

1702 Edward Ridge of Pentrich mentions a cousin named Thomas

Edward  Ridge appears to have been employed as a servant employed by Charles Pool at Heage Hall and appeared to have stolen the gold belonging to Charles Pool when he died suddenly.
Edward then bought several properties in Heage before moving to Pentrich.

The Ridge family appear to have been very involved with the dissenting religion in Heage/Belper.

I am struggling to find any baptism or marriage records for the Ridge family and any help will be appreciated.

Thanks for reading this

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / Re: Smith family in Scarcliffe, Belper and Heage

To ColC and Spendlove

Thank you both so much for your response.  I had looked at the George Smith and Ann Spencer marriage in the past but wasn't sure if I could be sure that it was the correct one so thought it was worth asking if anyone could find any alternatives.

I have copies of the wills of George Smith 1722 -1813 and George Smith the younger 1755 -1822 and think that they may be the Georges that I am looking for.

I have found a baptism for an Ann Spencer 6 June 1756 and she has a brother William baptised 9 August 1761.  Both children of John Spencer and Elizabeth /Elza.

I think that I will have to accept the findings with a query mark next to them!

Now I just have to find a burial of George Smith baptised 1822 in Heage and not found after the 1891 census.

Thanks again for the help. It is very much appreciated.

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / Smith family in Scarcliffe, Belper and Heage

I am looking for any information about a George Smith who married Ann, surname unknown

They had 2 sons baptised in Scarcliffe, Matthew 17 January 1786 and Joseph 10 January 1790.

Joseph married Elizabeth Litchfield in Belper 24 September 1817.

When Joseph and Elizabeth's first son George was baptised in Heage on September 8th 1822, there was also an Elizabeth Smith aged 29 a daughter of George Smith (deceased) baptised on the same day.

Hoping someone may be able to help me to find details of George Smith senior and his wife.

Thank you for reading this.
