Hi Peter,
I have at last got arround to getting William Leah and Hannah Whittles marriage certifcate,
and yes you was  correct.  On the certifcate it says William and Hannah was marrried Jan 31st 1870 St Marks church Parish of Bredbury  William is 20 and Hannnah 19, father of William was the Joseph like you said, and John was Hannnahs father , and I believe that to be correct as my third cousin is related to whittles and said  Hannnahs father was a John whittle, so I am very pleased with this result now I can get further back probably , but I  will have to get Joseph and his wife Rebeccas marriage certificate,
I should also get the correct  William Leah's birth certifcate, has I have the wrong one, the one I got was of a William Leah born 1847 Bramhall. I take it the correct William Leah birth certifcate would be born wimslow, 1848 or 1850 going off the census dates.

So thanks again for all your help.

HI Peter,
Thanks for your email back regarding my Gt Grandad William Leah,
and thanks for your information back, yes Harriet must have been a misspelt, as I thought that was the dates I needed, so I have just sent off for the marriage certifcate of  William Leah and Hannah Whittle.  so will no eventually who the father was, will get back to you then.
I still have your earlier emails with info about Joseph and Rebecca.

Hi Peter,
Hope all is well with you,  we contacted each other quite a few months ago, my enquiry was about my Gt Grandad William Leah who married  a Hannah whittle, and they had  8 children Samuel, Thomas, John my Grandad, James, William , Joseph, Jonathan, and Elizabeth.
You emailed  me back  saying you thought Joseph Leah and a Rebecca were  Williams parents , they were born Handforth. I thought that could be them.
I have  a birth certifcate of  William Leah born 1847 in Bramhall, but he has no father mentioned only a mother Harriet, so could not go any further back with my research. You and I came to the conclusion that I may have the wrong William Leah's birth certifcate, and we decided it may be a good idea to send for the marriage certifcate of William Leah and Hannah Whittle.
so at last today I decided I would send for the marriage certifcate, you gave me these details,   marriage 1st quarter 1870 at stockport, volume 8a page 5
I thought I would do a quick check on the cheshire BMD's for their marriage but could not find,  I too thought I had the same details down on paper somewhere, but could not find either.
I just wondered if you could vertify this for me, before I try and send away .
thankyou.
Hope you dont mind.

HI Kathryn, July,

Thanks for your email.  Yes I have been back to Hyde, with my husband Richard who is Australian born. We went back in 2003, We stayed for a week with Barbara Lees/ne Oldham in Denton where she lived, unfortunately her partner had only died a few months before we got there, Barbara was very lonely without her partner Jack so she was very glad of our company, she took us arround to places, her Mother too had died, one day we walked arround with her to Newton Hall Road, where she lived , I got it wrong before I said  Hallbottom Road, it just came to me,  I wanted to go  in my old school flowery field secondary school, but it was a Sunday and of course everything closed up. and couldnt take a  photo as there were cars there,  we had a busy schedule, so didnt get back there  unfortunately. I had to see lots of old freinds and second and third cousins, we had a reunion of a few at my school at  "The Village Pub" in Dukinfield that was great, about twelve altogeather turned up, we went over to Northern Ireland for a week , as Richard has Irish  on his fathers side. we took a Trafalgar tour  and visited Paris, Amsterdam, Switzerland and Germany, and three days we stopped over in London as we were coming over to England. We were  there  only for four weeks, then had to visit my  Mum and  Dad  and brother and his wife in Gosford, N.S.W. an hour from Sydney. It was a great holiday but not long enough,

I dont know if Eileen Needhams father was Mayor or not, my Grandad James Fitton on my Mothers side was a councillor for Newton Ward as Labour, tried to go for Mayor, he had to resign  as councillor as he became ill and died in 1955.

I am in contact with a Annie Leah she is 81 lives in Rosemount Crescent Newton Hyde, she is wife to a Jack Leah but he died, Jack had a son Jonathon who was a brother to my Grandad John Leah. I have had a few letters from a Ronald Leah who lives on Ashton Road Hyde, he has a cousin Kenneth Leah, and Christine  Graham/ne Leah Christine lives in Blackpool . I found out that Christine Graham is my second cousin, as her Grandad Joseph Leah was a brother to my Grandad John Leah.

Well better get some lunch I am getting rather hungry.

Regards
Barbara
