Hi Julia,

I thought I would post my thoughts rather than e.mailing you directly to capture a wider audience so to speak!!!   But I was hoping you would see it as I figured out of any one Geoff would hopefully know!    :-)

OK,   here is an interesting thought...

I was talking to another Angland cousin today  (he would be my mother's first cousin).   His mother Honera Angland did alot of research back in the day - athough it sounds like he has not inherited these documents...    one really interesting segment of the conversation he was telling me how he went to Ireland many years ago and met with some of the Anglands - it was worked out at the time that these Irish Anglands were indeed relatives.   They were able to tell him it is their understanding the Angland family emigrated to Ireland from France, and that in France their name was Angleterre.   He also told me that the Angleterre family were Hugenoughts.  (which is probably the reason the left France and came to Ireland).    I understand the Hugenoughts were not well liked in France but that is about all I know of them...   who exactly were the Hugenoughts?  does anyone know?      Was being a Hugenought a religous thing? an ethinc thing? was it some kind of family dynasty?  my knowledge of this group of historical people is sadly lacking!!!

It would explain why there alot of French family names like Daniel, Danielle, and Michael.....    Anyone else have any thoughts???

Hi Eric,

Do know much about the other Cahill's in Joseph's family?
My great-grandmother's maiden name was Cahill - her first name was Ellen and she was born approximately 1863.   On a wedding certificate I recently obtained, I have discovered that the names of Ellen's parents were Jeremiah Cahill and Norah Cahill (nee: Sullivan)    but this is all I know of her family (other than that they potentially came from the Cork or Kerry areas)....
I would be really interested if you had any of these names in your tree...

Kind regards,

Danielle James.

But your comment makes sense....

Kerry / Cahill and Sullivan

My great grandmother Ellen Cahill was born approximately 1863 and married Daniel Joseph Angland in 1889.    I have just obtained their marriage certificate and have identifed Ellen's parents as being one Jeremiah Cahill and Norah Cahill (nee:  Sullivan)     Jeremiah and Norah either came from County Cork or Kerry.

Is there anyone else out there who can trace their ancestory back to a Jeremiah and Norah Cahill in either Cork or Kerry...  I would love to hear from you.

Kind regards,

Danielle James.

Well guys...

We have confirmation of the identity Michael's second wife - the mother of Daniel Angland...
Have obtained the marriage certificate of Daniel Angland and Ellen Cahill from NZ births deaths and marriages.  This has the parents of both Daniel and Ellen listed.
I have transcribed the details on the certificate below:

They were married on the 26th Feb 1889 in the Church of the Immaculate Conception in the District of Geraldine, New Zealand.
Both ages are just listed as 'full'  (not enormously helpful!!)
Daniel's rank/profession is listed as Farmer
and Ellen's rank/profession is listed as  Lady
Interestingly both have their birthplace listed as County Kerry in Ireland...   (now how is that for adding to the confusion!!!...  I wonder if that is an error on the Register's part)
Daniel's residence is listed as Milford, and Ellen's residence as Geraldine.

Daniel's parents are listed as:
Michael Angland (farmer) and Julia Angland (nee Greney)

Ellen's parents are listed as:
Jeremiah Cahill (farmer)  and Norah Cahill (nee Sullivan)

And there we have it....
Next step obtain Daniel & Ellen's death certificates,  and try and get hold of a marriage certificate for one of Daniel's older siblings to try and confirm the first wife's name...
