Hi Mabel
Quote
There's a Jessie Bower, pauper inmate of unknown place of birth in Hornchurch Cottage Homes in 1901
That Jessie is Lizzie's daughter.  At the time of the 1911 census, Jessie (Maria) was shown as a patient at  Great Northern Central Hospital,  Holloway Road, Upper Holloway, N London. Parish - Islington. Age 19 yrs. Occ: House-Parlourmaid Domestic. Bless her, her death is registered April 1911. There was another daughter, Lizzie Ada born July 1890, her death registered Dec 1890.

Hi Liz
I also wondered if the son may have been adopted. Can't find a death that's relevant. I suppose it's possible that he may even have been sent overseas. Sad thought isn't it  :'(

Hi Carole
Thank you for your reply. Yes I agree with your sentiments, he was a horrible husband. She must have had an awful life. With regard to your comment about mental institution, I didn't realize she may have been entered  only by initials, if she was in one that is. Thank you for your input with this.

The Common Room / Help please with Lizzie & son Anthony
« on: Thursday 21 August 14 13:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi all.
I am researching Lizzie Ada b 29 May 1867 Clerkenwell. Lizzie married Anthony Frederick Bowers 25 Dec 1886. 1891 Lizzie is living 54 Provost St, Shoreditch London. Age 24 yrs, married, 1 child ( Elizabeth Rose ). Another daughter Lizzie Ada is born Jul 1890, dies later that year. Another daughter Jessie Maria birth regd Shoreditch Dec qtr 1891, she dies 1911 age 19 yrs. Son Anthony Frederick Bowers b 04 Oct 1894 Shoreditch. In Feb 1894, the husband Anthony Frederick Bowers was in prison, jailed for sexual assault against his six year old daughter Rose! It was his second sexual assault charge, also assaulting his daughter Jessie. The 2 girls were the subject of removal orders. The second page of the girls settlement stated that " the mother was seriously ill ".
01 Jun 1894: Settlement Orders for Lizzie, show that she was pregnant with son Anthony, and in
1901 she is at The Convent, Dover, Kent. Age  39 yrs, convalescent patient. After 1901 I have lost track of her. I have Jessie in 1911, Elizabeth Rose in 1901, but no trace of the son Anthony Frederick apart from his baptism record Oct 1894. Elizabeth Rose died 1958. The husband dies 1916.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you .. Lyn.
