I came across this post again today.  Did you ever make any progress with it?  I would be interested to know.

Total 1/2 matches 232.3

I have a "match" on Gedmatch Genesis with someone who shares 60 small matches spread fairly evenly across all chromosomes.  Two are in the 6-7 range.  We have a 7cm match on X and many smaller ones. I feel this is too many to be accidental.  We also have shared surnames and locations.  As a beginner I would appreciate some advice as to whether to pursue this or not.

Hi Samuel

I don't have much more experience than you with Gedmatch but these tests seem to be aimed at telling you where your ancient ancestor groups originally came from.  I had similar results to you.  I tested with Living DNA and they provided a similar "map" of where they think your motherline originated. You can't specifically relate the results to you as they are too far back in time
Any dna matches will be very small to nil after around 7 generations, so I think interesting to do, but don't take too much notice of the results.  Hope this helps.  I'm sure there are experts on this site who could give you an explanation of the technicalities!

I have just uploaded to the main site and "strong" matches on Genesis, who have kits on both, don't appear on my matches on the main site!  I assume this is because of the numbers using each as you say.  But it still doesn't explain why a raft of new top matches appear to be weaker than the ones below them.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Gedmatch Genesis - problems?
« on: Saturday 14 October 17 11:49 BST (UK)  »
My top matches on Gedmatch Genesis were generally quite strong but over the last week or so I have had a raft of new "top matches" which are quite poor.  It seems that they are now rating top matches solely on number of generations and ignoring everything else.  Had anyone else noticed this?
