Hi Just picked up your threads. If it helps any the marriage of Martha Elton and William Pontin did take place and I am a descendant of this marriage. The Pontins lived at Soley (Chilton Foliat) until about 1820 by which time the family was moving across the county boundary into Kintbury (Berkshire). Ambrose William Pontin left Kintbury for South Wales (Aberdare) where he married in 1852. The family remained there until the 1980's. Pontins died out in Kintbury c. 1870.

Morgan Charles married Pollie Mary Pontin, daughter of Ambrose Pontin. They had at least tfour sons, Leonard, Charles, David and Cyril. If you are descended from one of these we are cousins removed.

Hello

I am a descendant of Ambrose William Pontin. he was born in Kintbury in 1830 though on several Census returns gave his parish of origin as Arburn. I have extensively researched his life over the last 30 years. He moved to Aberdare inc, 1850 and was married in St Johns church in 1851. He spent the rest of his life in Aberdare. He joined the Taff Vale Railway in 1857 and retired when he was 75!
