Hi Pip

sorry for the delay in my reply,

thought i'd give you the list of my Dix lineage, here goes

Maria Dix 1880 - grt grandmother
Ephraim Dix 1850
John Dix 1824
Ephraim Dix 1788
William Dix 1753
William Dix 17?? - 6x grt grandfather

There are too many extended family and children to list and I suspect they migrated all over the UK looking for work, my 2x grt grandfather Ephraim came to the midlands looking for work.

I have discovered that the family were strict Methodists and all came from Northmoor in Oxfordshire and surronding villages. Ephraim (1788) appears in the British History on-line website for his involvement in primitive methodism (non-conformist)

Hope this helps in your research, there are plenty of records on-line to research them.

Regards

Cluck

Hi

I don't know if there is a connection but i am also researching my Dix family, I have gone back to early 1700's starting with William Dix, my 6x grt grandfather from Oxfordshire, I don't have any dates and exact places until William Dix born 1753 in Aston Oxfordshire his descendants were then listed in Northmoor Oxfordshire.

Something has just occurred to me and I wondered if you could help, I mentioned that Daniel Hartill (1826) was a child miner, living on Dudley road Wolverhampton, would you know what mines there were in that area in about 1841, there may be employment records in existance. I do know that Daniel was living with 3 other boys, lodging with the Spruce family.

Thankyou for the reply, actually, my grt grandfather Daniel Albert Hartill had a grocery store in Tamworth in late 1800's early 1900's, not many Daniel Hartill's have appeared in the census though, that fit with mine! I'll check it out!

I am researching my Hartill family and have so far found, Daniel Albert Hartill (grt grandfather) born 1875, his father Daniel Hartill born 1826 is my brick wall! I have located him in the 1841 census, living with the Spruce family, age 15, a miner on Dudley road, Wolverhampton, his place of birth is given as Rowley.  He married Sophia Spruce (i have loads of info on the Spruce side) in 1849 at the parish church sedgley and it states his father was called William, occupation cordwainer (shoemaker). I would like to research further back with Daniel and William and to find any connection with the many Hartills in the Staffs/Worc area but have found it difficult because there seems to be many William Hartills but cannot connect them to my Daniel. Any advice would be appreciated.

Regards
