Hi Wiggy,

I found the best way to read the will was to download it to my computer and then adjust the zoom to about 40%.

Will try to send you a copy via PM

Hi Wiggy,

I have just had a look at the will (6358), page 2.
It states that T Crawford, photographer was the occupier of "that portion of" a property in Collins Street that was owned by T Ransom.
I am not an expert on wills but the will speaks of the "improving, rebuilding, repairing" the property and also speaks of what is to happen with the rent money.

My interpretation of what I have read is that T. Crawford, photographer, was paying rent to Thomas Ransom for part of the building in Collins Street.

It is a very complicated and detailed will, as they often were when properties and shares were involved, but I don't think that Ransom bequeathed the property to Crawford; their relationship was that of landlord and tenant and the executors were being given instructions re the matter.

regards, Natta

Hi Wiggy,

Thomas Crawford, photographer, Hobart, is a direct ancestor in our tree.

He took over the Hobart photographic business of J. Bishop-Osborne (his brother-in-law).

Can you can tell me the name of the person who wrote the will?

I haven't been on this site for ages so apologies for the delay in reply.

Hello, I am a newbie - just signed up this afternoon and have never been a member of a genealogy site before.  I have only had a little look around, but it looks really good, so thank you to the people who have organised this site. You have done a lot of work and I have a lot to learn.
Little bit by little bit I will learn, but please bear with me if I ask silly questions. ;)
We have got back into researching the family tree(s) and it is a bit of a forest at times, it is a bit too easy to get sidetracked with other interesting little paths.
Our families are mostly Crawfords (Ayrshire), Ellis England), Davis (England) and a few others.
I have yet to work out how to put this into my profile and I am happy to be told how this is done.
See, I told you I might ask some silly questions   :P
