I was wondering if someone has access to the 1920 US Census that would kindly look to see if my great grandfather is listed on it.  I don't have a full subscription on Ancestry.

My great grandfather, Richard Thomas Cross b. 1877 Buckinghamshire, England went to live with his sister-in-law, Alice Girdwood and her husband Robert Templeton Girdwood in Illinois after the death of his wife Maria in Australia in 1916.  My grandad, Robert George Cross b. 1911 Wales and his sister Clara Cross b. 1907 England, grew up in the US, I believe they lived at 519 Spruce Street, Aurora, Illinois.

Would someone be able to look up these names on the 1920 Census for me please?  Thank you.

Surrey / Cross of Warlingham/Chelsham, Surrey
« on: Monday 27 April 09 11:13 BST (UK)  »
I have just discovered a second marriage to one of my Cross relatives which opens up a new line altogether!

Richard Richards Cross  b. 1844 Tingewick, Bucks married Martha King b. 1856 Chelsham, Surrey.  They had 2 children:

1.  John Richard (known as Richard) b. 1880 Chelsham, Surrey.  He married Eva Louise Walker b. 1884 Warlingham, Surrey.  They had children born in Warlingham between 1907 and 1923.

2.  Edward William b. 1881 Chelsham Surrey.  He married Eliza Cottingham b. 1881 Surrey.  They had children born in Warlingham between 1903 and 1923.

Wondered if there are any relatives out there??

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / Re: CROSS/CRISP in Wandsworth, Surrey

A bit of an update for you and a rather bizarre puzzle.

Sent off for the death certificate of Richard Cross who died in Jan 1881, address 27 Bellamy Street, Wandsworth.  Present at death was widow of the deceased Martha Cross.  That's sounds quite normal doesn't it?!!  Not when she died in 1878 it doesn't!  When you look at census returns Aleathia does look like Martha so we thought it must be just a typo on the certificate.

Looked for a remarriage on freebmd but there doesn't seem to be one.
Looked for a Martha or Aleathia Cross on the 1881 census but no luck.

So what now?  ???

Lancashire / Birth Certificate: Edward Bramwell 1850 Pilling
« on: Wednesday 18 March 09 11:05 GMT (UK)  »
I have in my possession a birth certificate of Edward Bramwell b. 28 June 1850 in Pilling.  He is the son of James Bramwell (farmer) and Hannah Mason.

Get in touch if you would like me to send it to you.  I ordered it and it was not my line.

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / Re: 1861 Census - look up request

Thanks for your suggestions.

I am now in possession of George Bramwell and Nancy Walker's marriage certificate.  They married on 11 Feb 1851 in Clitheroe, Lancs.  George was of full age/bachelor, Nancy was a minor/spinster.  George's occupation was policeman.  Nancy was a Weaver.  George is confirmed to be the son of Edward Bramwell the Butcher and Nancy the dau of John Walker the Gardener.  The marriage is witnessed by James Jowitt and Thomas Brewer.

I also sent off for the birth certificate of Septimus Bramwell.  He was born 12 Feb 1839.  The son of Edward Bramwell and Elizabeth Bingham.  Edward Bramwell's occupation is Butcher and resident in Tideswell, Derbyshire.

So this confirms that both George Bramwell on the 1851 Census and the 1861 Census is the same one and that George and Septimus are brothers.

What would be really helpful now is to find a Will of George Bramwell or even find out the death dates.  Last known address was Tipton, Staffs in 1861.  He died by 1879.

I'll just have to keep sending off for certificates until I get a hit!

No cannot find this family in any later census returns either.  If you look at the childrens ages, this Ann can't be the mother of the children as she was below child bearing age (according to my FT software!).

I'm trying to piece together whether the son Edward who is 8 in 1861 is my great grandfather.  I've found Edward in 1871 in Scotland stating he was born in England but nothing more.  He married in London in 1879 and on the marriage certificate his father was George Bramwell, occupation Stationer/Station Master and was deceased.

This is a difficult line to trace!  :-\
