The Common Room / Re: Burial of Rose Dannatt - will I find it on the NBI?
« on: Friday 14 September 12 20:10 BST (UK)  »
After I got Rose's death certificate I spoke to a lady at Nottingham Archives who checked what coroners records they had for 1936, she said they had very little in the way of records for that year, she was the one who checked the Nottingham papers for any report of the inquest.  She did also say, sad as it was, it was not an unusual cause of death in the 1930s - so perhaps had been sidelined if there were other items of news that could have taken priority.
I shall carry on looking but I feel it will be something I find out when I'm looking for something else.  I first found out about Rose in Jan 1999 - earlier this year I finally found her (with name spelt wrong) on freeBMD.  Perhaps you kind people who have answered my query will keep her name at the back of your mind if you are searching burial registers in the area.
My grateful thanks to you all

Thanks for that link, nothing for Chesterfield in twentieth cent, back to the looking for the needle in the haystack.  I have checked most of the cemetaries in Chesterfield,  I did wonder if she was actually buried in Nottingham as she died there, or whether she would have been brought back to Chesterfield.

What is the National Burial Index - this may sound as though it's self explanatory but does it cover the WHOLE country and if it does how do you access the information on it.  I am looking for the burial of Rose Miriam Dannatt, (on Free Reg burials as Rose Dennett) died at Nottingham Hospital on 12 April 1936, of "shock and injuries sustained when her clothes caught fire."  She was descibed as "of Heath Road, Temple Normanton, nr Chesterfield, and even though there was a coroners inquest I have not been able to find any newspaper report, either in the Derbyshire Times and the Nottingham papers of that time.  Don't even know if she was living at home or in service at the address given, I have her death certificate but would like to know where she was buried.

Yes, I'd picked those out before, and there are two that could have been Thorpe, which would have registered at Lincoln.  These are the two I want to check.
But thanks for the tip about FreeReg - I've never found any 20c in there but nice to know they are there
thanks everybody for help

Thanks Trish, it's a bit of a long shot here but I have now made arrangements to view the registers as it's 2 20c burials I am looking for, William and Eliza Thacker, died respectively 1922 and 1917, they may not be the ones I'm looking for but ages at death roughly correlate the people I am researching.  As they are not "mine" I haven't entered them as interests but it is a family I've done quite a bit of research on something I can go back to when I get stuck with other research.  I thought I had entered my own interests when I joined Rootschat earlier this year, which are DANNATT, lincolnshire yorkshire and derbyshire and SMITH/ROPER derbyshire and leicestershire.

Can anyone tell me, please,  if the burial registers that cover 1920's for Thorpe on the Hill would still be at the church and who I would need to contact to see them if they are still there?
Thanks

World War Two / Re: WW2 Soldier - How do I find his regiment
« on: Monday 18 June 12 10:19 BST (UK)  »
Thanks all for your input - my cousin has the medals and a scroll of some kind, hopefully that will have a regiment or number on it, he is going to photo them and send them down to me, we will them make a decision as to whether to apply for his papers.  I have also asked him to look for a death certificate if he still has it.
