Hi Mary

Happy New Year to you!  Thanks for reminding me about this look-up.  I'll be down at the RO this week, so will take a look at the record you mention and hope to find some information for you.

Regards,

Gillg

Never could resist a challenge, though I must admit I've not done anything as old as that before.  If we're talking about Early New High German, I shall have to fish out my Uni text books.

I'll send you a PM with my email adress, so you can attach it to your reply.

Regards,

Hi GeoffE

I also discovered these exellent sites, but unfortunately not until after I had spent several hours poring over parish records and extracting information for Val on a previous enquiry of hers! ::)

Oh, no, not another Hunts William Fairy!  Between us Marlene and I have quite a few of them and Josephs a-plenty, too, and still no relationship established between our two families from the village of Gt. Catworth.

I can't connect this William and Joseph with my family.  I do remember once finding a site with photos and stories about these farmers, but can I find it now...? ::)

Marlene, where are you? :D

Happy New Year, Val!

Sorry I didn't follow up your earlier search for the Embury baptisms in Tewksbury further after our correspondence in November, but the RO was closed for a couple of weeks and Christmas came along, you know how it is.... ::)

I'll be back in Gloucester RO again next week, and will take a look at the Tewkesbury records for these baptisms, which I would expect to be in the Abbey records, like the later family members I found for you.  If not, I can try some of the Gloucester churches.

Regards,
Gill

Cambridgeshire Lookup Requests / Swavesey baptism - Mary Green
« on: Thursday 03 January 08 11:36 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for a baptism or birth record for Mary Green, born according to census records in Swavesey c1784-6.  In 1841 she is listed in Ellington, Hunts, as Mary Fairy age 55 born in county, in 1851 age 65 and in 1861 age 77, place of birth in both 51 and 61 given as Swavesey, Cambs.  She was the second wife of William Fairy, whom she married in Ellington in 1811, and she died there in 1865 age 79.

Curiously none of their children have been found so far in baptism records, and it seems possible that she may have returned to her birthplace for their baptisms.  Another possibility is that these children, like those from William's first marriage, were presented at a Nonconformist church. The children whose names I know are Mary born c1816, Elizabeth c1818, Rachel c1821 and David c1823.  According to census records they were born in Ellington.

If you are able to help, it would be much appreciated. :)

Europe / Need help translating German documents?
« on: Wednesday 02 January 08 11:26 GMT (UK)  »
If you have German documents which need translating, I'd be happy to help.  I have had 6 years experience working as a translator on a Holocaust-related project and have worked with documents in the old script, both handwritten and printed.

No payment expected, by the way.  This is just to keep my skills going.
