Order of Removal from St Pancras, 1883
Catherine Sarah Fox
- the said pauper is the lawful wife of John Fox now absent from her

In the London Poor Law Records on ancestry,

and again, images 357-359
To the Guardians of the Poor of St Giles in the Fields + St George Bloomsbury
Catherine Sarah Fox, 57, a Pauper Lunatic..

I had saved these to my ancestor but the links have changed.  I'm not certain Ancestry has these records any longer unfortunately.

People related on just one segment can be from quite far back.  It's likely that all of these matches are triangulating with your cousin on the same single segments, and that A, their ancestor, had they tested would have shared around 32cM (the greatest amount your cousin shares with any of them).

Has your cousin uploaded their DNA anywhere else?  Some members of this family could be at other sites and this could help to narrow down how far back the relationship is.

It falls slightly outside the upper range for the relationship, so perhaps there's an additional relationship.

There's quite a few Facebook pages dedicated to genetic genealogy that you may find helpful.

Unfortunately Thompson is a very common name in that area - my grandmother's younger siblings have Thompson ancestors from that area and even with a few descendants having taken DNA tests we're still struggling to build the tree back of my grandmother's "step-father" (they barely knew him - he scarpered when his youngest daughter was an infant).

I'm always hesitant to try a name in the tree to see what Thrulines brings up.

DNA is not necessarily passed down equally.

It is possible that a Grandparent’s DNA is not shared with a Grandchild.

There is an infinitesimal likelihood that a grandchild would receive no DNA from a grandparent.  That would require the parent to pass down exactly all 23 chromosomes from the other grandparent with out any recombination to the child.

Just read my reply up there and it has a few typos.  It should read:

It will come up with an Odds Ratio which tells you which is more likely (I can tell you now just based on the numbers) that the likelihood that EM is your gt-grandfather and it wasn't one of the brothers is very high.

I've used it several times in the past day and it's been working for me.

It will comes up with an Odds Ration which tells you which is more likely (I can tell you know just based on the numbers) that the likelihood that EM is your gt-grandfather and it wasn't one of the brothers is very high.

If you have difficulty I can do it for you.

Have any other descendants of your grandfather tested?

Have you tried the "What are the odds tool" I mentioned.

You use it to test the probability of two scenarios.

You're the Target Person and you use the tool to test two hypotheses - one is that EM is your gt-grandfather.  You build the tree (it's backwards from what you'll be used to) and include EM's son. RM, with whom you share 394cM.  You also add RM's brother's children with whom you share 255 and 207cM.  Don't include the children of these two (not needed - you have the parent)

Set up the tree a second time and in this instance put yourself as a gt-grandchild of EM's brother.
