London and Middlesex / Eric J Carr
« on: Monday 08 April 19 09:26 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,
I am trying to research the Carr family but can't seem to get very far. Here is what I know for sure:

Eric J Carr married Mabel E F Izzard in 1945 Watford

A potential birth for him is 1914 in Hackney to John P Carr and Edith Ellis (who married in Hackney in 1913). I'm not absolutely certain this is the correct birth.

If it is the correct parents then I am stuck as I can't find a suitable birth for John P Carr. An online family tree has him being born in Yorkshire in 1889 but I can't see how they came to this conclusion.

Any help on this would be much appreciated. I would like to know if Eric's parents are John and Edith. If not who are they? And if they are where did John come from?

Thank you so much
Vicky

Buckinghamshire / Frank King
« on: Monday 31 December 18 15:30 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there,
I am trying to do family history for a friend and am really stuck before I even start on Frank King.
I don't know much about him. This is what i do know:
He died about 1980/84 in Bletchley and was aged about 52.
He married Daphne Stratford in 1953 in Harrow - she died about 2015 in Bletchley
They have numerous children that I do know about.

I have been able to go back further on the Stratford family but am totally stumped on the King family. I can't seem to find a suitable birth for him around that area.
Just need a jump start.
Thank you very much for your help

Hi there, would anyone be able to tell me the date you think this photo was taken? It is my cousin's photograph. We are not sure who it is but it does say on the bottom - best wishes Alf. So persumably Alf would be the one in the photo?

I am assuming it's WW1 but I'm not sure. If anyone could tell me anything else about it by the uniform etc. I would be extremely grateful.

Thank you in advance.

Europe / Spain death records 1800s
« on: Tuesday 20 November 18 19:10 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there,
Does anyone know where I can find Spanish death records online? I have an ancestor,British, who worked in Spain and had a son there. I think the father may have died there as I cannot find any death records for him in this country. I have narrowed his death down to a period of ten years.
Any help appreciated.
Thank you

Norfolk / Henry Thurston 1818 Great Cressingham
« on: Monday 01 October 18 19:55 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,
I am trying to research Henry Thurston but have got stuck. Wonder if anyone could help.
I know from 1871 and 1881 census that he was born about 1819 Great Cressingham. He is married to Emma Johnston and have several children. I am trying to find out who his parents are.
I found a christening for 11 Nov 1818 in Great Cressingham with parents of Jeremiah and Judith.
But I can find no marriage for Jeremiah and Judith and no mention of Judith in any records.
In the 1841 census I found a Henry Thurston born about 1820 Great Cressingham but the head of house is Daniel Thurston.
I found another 1841 census with a Henry Thurston born about 1818 but his parents are Jeremiah and Diana.

I am confused about who Henry's parents are or if Jeremiah married again?
If anyone could find any records related to Henry it would be most appreciated.
Thank you

Cheshire / Thomas Whitehead, Chester
« on: Monday 13 August 18 18:22 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,
I am trying to go back further on the Whitehead family. I have managed to trace the family back to Thomas Whitehead who married Margery. I think their marriage was in 1720 in Market Drayton, Shropshire and her maiden name was Cooper. They had 3 children in Hawarden, Flintshire - Elizabeth, Peter and Margaret. He was a stone mason and so was his son Peter. I am trying to find a baptism for Thomas. I can't find any in Wales but have found a few potentials in Chester but I don't know how to figure out which one is the right one.
Any help would be much appreciated

The Common Room / Question about the 1939 census
« on: Sunday 13 May 18 18:56 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,
I was just wondering why some people's records on the 1939 census were closed. I found my grandmother but my grandfather's record was closed. He died later in 2001. Don't know if that makes a difference.
Thank you in advance.

London and Middlesex / James George Whitehead marriage record
« on: Friday 30 March 18 10:51 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,
I am trying to find a marriage record for James George Whitehead born about 1843. I know he married Mary Ann Matthews in 1863 in Southwark. I have found a record for them which is just a list but can't find a full record. The reason I want to find out one is to see if his father is listed as deceased as I am trying to find his father's death.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you

The Common Room / Can anyone who uses ancestry online tree help me?
« on: Saturday 04 November 17 14:45 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there,
I seemed to have messed up my ancestry tree in one area and am not sure how to fix it without deleting several people.
Basically there is one ancestor who had 13 children and I have somehow managed to put some down as the children of both him and his wife and some down as only being the child of one parent. They are all him and his wife's children but it's all messed up and I don't know how to fix it without deleting a load of people. Not sure if I'm making much sense but if you can help it would be appreciated
Thank you
Vicky
