World War Two / Re: Help with missing information on dads army career.

It looks to me as if he was a Sapper (SPR) so he was in the Royal Engineers. They would be attached to various other units, so it looks as if he spent time attached to the RA (Royal  Artillery) and the GSC (General Service Corps) then back to the Royal Engineers.

Added:  He also taught me "if you don't vote, then you can't complain!"   ;)

That has always been my response whenever anyone says they never bother to vote.

Prior to the Brexit vote I got into conversation with a young man at the bus stop, he felt his vote would not make any difference. When I explained that abstaining meant he gave up any right to complain if things didn't go the way he wanted, also that every vote counted, he understood my point and said he would vote in future.

I saw him again after the election, he told me he had voted and persuaded his friends to do so as well.

I think some people think the lack of on vote won't make any difference, but if everyone thought that way there would be no point in having elections. What a state the world would be in then.

I have always voted, even when living abroad I had a proxy vote. I also acted as proxy for my son and DIL when they were living abroad.

We only have to vote for the Police Commissioner this time, I made sure my vote was posted last week.

It’s quite possible that although he was brought up by the people he thought were his parents,  the adoption may not have take place until he was older. I may be wrong but I think 21 was the cut off point for adoption. You would need the see the date of issue on the certificate he used.

My in-laws brought up a baby from six weeks, but the  opportunity to adopt didn’t arise until  the child was ten years old..

It’s quite possible that the Enumerator made a mistake in the name when transferring the information to his book from the household schedule. You don’t know who filled out the schedule, it could have been someone other than the father or mother..  I have come across instances where that has happened.  There is always the possibility or errors in transcriptions.

RTL, I agree with Viktoria, I suffer with a double whammy, both underactive Thyroid and Pernicious Anaemia, I  know only too well how  they both drag one down. You sound as if you need a thorough investigative  medical, if necessary ask for a second opinion and don't take no for an answer.
