I think this attachment should tie together many of the threads in this forum and answer several questions including yours, Chesapek, about Robert Vance and Elizabeth Peden.

What would be REALLY interesting is a DNA test on one of the living male Vances - that would show us how these Vances fit into the bigger picture of the various Vance families that exist - see http://www.vancegenealogy.com/index.php.

Regards,
Jamie.

I wouldn't want to spoil the fun of the hunt for anyone, but here's a brief version of Bill's family; there's more detail at http://genealogy.jvans.co.uk/getperson.php?personID=I10325&tree=2.

Regards,
Jamie.

Dear Rose Marie,

That newspaper reference was the first mention I'd seen of Eric, hence my query about who he is/was. I've looked at Scotlands People and found:
1929
VANCE
ERIC
M
SHOTTS (EASTERN DISTRICT)
/LANARK
655/02 0115

but there's no access to the details without ordering a copy which costs £12, so it will have to wait - which is a pity because, as I've mentioned, the one thing I want to find is a male Vance who is prepared to have a DNA test done.

I've since found lots of info on Ancestry, posted by a Vance - but it's flawed, to say the least, so I don't know what to believe. For example, Eric's father is said to have been born in Ireland in 1890, to be in Scotland in the 1841 census and in the USA in the 1880 census! I'm trying to contact the person who posted the info for clarification.

If this person is essentially right about the family, he doesn't appear to be a descendant of John Vance and Catherine Hoay, but could be related in an earlier generation.

Of course if I find anything worthwhile, I'll post it.
Regards,
Jamie.

Does anyone know where Eric Vance, son of John Vance of Harthill, married Ruth Fritchie in 1961 in Florida? See http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=2206&dat=19610701&id=cnYyAAAAIBAJ&sjid=EOkFAAAAIBAJ&pg=3389,412969

Sorry, no knowledge of relevant Doyle/Vance or Byrne/Vance connections. If you ever make any progress, and I hope you do, please let me know and I'll try to extend your knowledge; but can't do more at the moment, I'm afraid.

As you can see from other posts, this won't be easy, Good luck though.
Jamie.

As I said, recent records aren't mostly available. Can I suggest http://www.belfastcity.gov.uk/burialrecords/search.asp which has Belfast burials, gives dates of death with ages and also shows last place of living and which other people share a plot - which presumably are usually close family.

You might need to google a street map to get full advantage and be prepared to spend/waste a fair amount of time.

Good luck,
Jamie.

Hello,

You'll find a fullish account of that family at http://genealogy.jvans.co.uk/getperson.php?personID=I4393&tree=2

But I don't have your Johanna (Joan) on file I don't think. What was her husband's name?

Regards,
Jamie.
