Occupation Interests / Actor ~ Stanley Weston
« on: Friday 27 December 13 19:50 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for suggestions although I appreciate I have very little to go on.

I'm interested in Stanley Weston, actor ~ well at least that's who she put as her father on her marriage entry in 1939 (she was born 1916 although I can find no birth record).  I've trawled through the 1911 census but can only find an Alfred Weston b1872 in Wales, living Enderby, Leicestershire who was an Actor's manager.

Does anyone have any ideas or experience in this area?  Are there any websites I could check?

Yorkshire (North Riding) / Simpson in Scarborough c1800
« on: Monday 16 December 13 14:00 GMT (UK)  »
Bit of a long shot, but I'm looking for the bapt. of William SIMPSON b c1797 and his sister Elizabeth b c1800 - father Robert.  William gave his birth as Scarborough when he was transported in 1830.  Elizabeth's 1st husband was called Cannon and I would imagine they married between 1820-1830.

Sussex / Albion Hill Home, Brighton
« on: Wednesday 13 November 13 21:10 GMT (UK)  »
I've found someone living at Albion Hill Home in 1901.  When I googled I got the impression it was either a home for unmarried mother or a home for prostitutes.  Can anyone clarify the situation in 1901?

Sussex / Arthur WRIGHT
« on: Wednesday 06 November 13 20:11 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for death/burial of Arthur Wright.  Arthur was born in London in 1872 but was living in Franklin Road, Portslade with his father and sister when the 1901 census was taken.  He's shown as 'deaf since birth' and has no occupation.  I cannot find Arthur on the 1911 census although his father and sister are living at Montpelier Street, Brighton.  I therefore tend to believe that Arthur probably died between the two censuses.

Are there any on-line records I could check for this area (I don't live in Sussex)?

Can anyone tell me the names of the most likely cemeteries for Portslade and Brighton?

Any other suggestions appreciated.

I'm trying to find William SIMPSON, book binder, born c1797, on any census or record after 1839.

He was convicted and transported to Australia in 1830 but pardoned in 1839.  At the time he was transported he had a wife and six children so I thought perhaps he would have returned to the UK?  Are there any census records for Australia on-line? Would his family have joined him out there?

His wife's name was Ann and his children were: John b1817, William b1919, Thomas b1821, George b1824 and Elizabeth b1828.  The children were all baptised at St. Leonards, Shoreditch and at the time of his trial he lived in St Giles Cripplegate.  According to the convict register, he was born in Scarborough.

Also, I found him mentioned in the New South Wales & Tasmania, Convict Musters 1806-1849 but can't read the words under 'Remarks'.  Under some people it says, pardon or ticket of leave but in William's case it doesn't look like either of these.  Can anyone tell me what it says?

Laois (Queens) / From Newry to Mountrath
« on: Friday 09 August 13 10:34 BST (UK)  »
Not really sure which Irish board to put this on.

My gt-aunt married a man born in Newry (Louis Fenelon) and he's living there on the 1901 census aged 2; by 1911 his mother had been widowed and re-married and is living in Dublin.  Two of her children though are at school in Mountrath - which seems a long way from Dublin.  Would there be any particular reason for this?
