Thank you  jc26red For the information about initials.
I think I have managed to trace the match as the progeny of a cousin of my mothers, whom I knew of but had not gone any further since they were much younger and possibly still living.

Thank you everyone for your replies.
Ancestry labels the 2 halves of my DNA as coming from parent 1Paternal or 2 maternal I decided which side was paternal and which side was maternal based on shared matches where I could trace the relationship and was fairly certain that it was correct. That is back to my 3G grandparents and their offspring, through the succeeding generations on the maternal side, the paternal side is a little fuzzier since there are gaps in my knowledge.
I don't know what NPE & MRCA stand for.
I am now going back to look at my tree and DNA results and give them further study.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / I'm Confused about Parents 1 & 2
« on: Tuesday 17 October 23 22:54 BST (UK)  »
I recently received a match of 377cm  5% which is closer than any match other than a !st cousin (known). The shared matches, and there were a lot, were mainly to parent 2 which appears to be my maternal side, but there were a few to parent 1. One of these gave a suggestion for a common ancestor, this ancestor however is through my maternal's mother ggrandparents.
I have never found any relationship between any of my parents' ancestors.

Try looking for other Clarksons in the area who are of the right age to be parents or siblings, maybe they came from elsewhere
