Steve!

Now here's something interesting .......  ::) somebody looking for a name for their business - choose the name Quai Sud to make you think of the ancient navy merchant ships which left to be supplied in the South Seas and brought back to Europe unknown and marvellous products.

Coffees from Brazil, Colombia, Mexico or New Guinea, sugars from Mauritius or Madagascar, cocoa from the best African soils... so much authentic flavours which we invite you to discover.

Then here's a young lady with the name Quai! and I found the place she came from - maybe a place to check out??

Hi Tasha
Lovely for you to join rootschat, my Que is in Antrim Ireland in 1830's and is a uncomon name for there.

I do not think my family have any conections at the moment.

What years did your grandfather come to England and what was your grandmothers name/age etc

Now you have found us ,please do post in the area that your grandmother came from ,telling us dates and anything else you know and maybe someone will be able to help you.

Do you think that Qua is another variant?

We have Qua in the background in Armagh. David, born Loughgilly, about 1825, was a farmer. His father's name was John. According to the LDS Site, there were Quas in both Canada and the US contemporary with the ones in Ireland so they were probably part of the diaspora.

This name continues to be quite rare.

Yes you could be right, if you could not write someone would right the name down how it sounded to them at the time.
