Just wondering if you have any insight into why a male born in the early to mid-1800s would have converted to Church of England - as you can see, Alexander McDonagh in 1911 listed all of his male children as Church of England and all of his female children as Roman Catholic. His youngest son Thomas said that his father was Protestant but all the family records found so far are Roman Catholic.

Was there a Church of England in Finglas at that time? (1800s-19030s at least)?

Alexander's father John is shown as owning the property next to St. Canice and the cemetery in the Griffith's Valuation - six houses at least. That's quite a bit of property for that time, isn't it? Might that have been because he was Protestant?
