Hi Wings

On a previous post for this chap you thought he might have been born in Stowmarket and were going to contact the Stowmaket PR volunteer at the Suffolk Surnames List.

Were they unable to find him, and if so do you have any other leads as to where he might be found?

Rick :)

Hi Rick
Thank you for your help the only info I have to go on is he was in Haughley 1851 aged 18 living away from home so I was hoping he was baptised somewhere near by in the Stow District because they are so many Roper's  round there. But I have had no luck yet.
Regards

Hi
This is the only Samuel Roper of suitable age in whole of Suffolk in 1841. These are likely  to be, but not necessarily his parents and siblings, as no relationships given in 41. Hope this of some help even though no John to clinch things.
Jan ;)

Hi Wings
I take it you know Samuel's father is John from a marriage certificate?  It is possible that Samuel thought his name was John because that was what he was known as but actually he was Robert? Perhaps a Robert John? Or even the other way round a John Robert known as Robert? Worth holding on to the Buxhall Samuel as he is only one in Suffolk in 1841 and in the right area. Perhaps someone could see if he appears in addition to your Samuel on other censuses in order to discount him? What birthplace does your Samuel give in 51? And have you got him on any other census?
Jan ;)
