« on: Sunday 20 November 05 11:25 GMT (UK) »
Can anybody help me in trying to identify the uniform/regiment please.

The person in question is John (aka jack) Samuel BROWNE born in Norwich c 1890.

On the reverse of the picture is written:

To dearest mother,From your loving son Jack

Alexandria Egypt 12/1/18

Thank you Graham

Thanks for the reply but thats all the info that I have other than he was gassed in WWI.
He survived the war and lived in Essex.
I assumed that as he came from Norfolk that he would have joined a local regiment.

at the beginning of the war, the 'pals' battalions were formed from local groups

but after 1916 recruits were sent where they were needed

can you get a clearer view of that badge on his shoulder?

Hi there,
My two bobs worth - the brass shoulder title to me looks like K O Y L I in other words The Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry.
George.

Hi George,

Thanks for the info. I am trying to highlight the shoulder area by having a re scan of the original.
