I makes me feel so bad when I think about how they were expected to just come home and carry on as "normal" - how could they? - but so many of them did! but I suppose that happens with every war! ......  ::)

Your medal card didn't say anything about a Silver War Badge that was given for being wounded - I wonder when he was wounded - do you know? do you know which battle by any chance?

Just so you know:

Class Z Reserve was authorised by an Army Order of 3 December 1918. There were fears that Germany would not accept the terms of any peace treaty, and therefore the British Government decided it would be wise to be able to quickly recall trained men in the eventuality of the resumption of hostilities. Soldiers who were being demobilised, particularly those who had agreed to serve "for the duration", were at first posted to Class Z. They returned to civilian life, but with an obligation to return if called upon. The Z Reserve was abolished on 31 March 1920.

You're right Graceland!

They had to get on with every day living - and put all the destruction and death behind them! I wish my Granddad was here now - so I could tell him that because of being able to find out the way things were - that I have a better understanding of him!
