Thanks, Nessie
I also thought of this:
We could wonder who this Floranna is...
I have a theory with nothing to back it up. If Mary named her daughter Floranna, perhaps they were related?
FreeBMD has a death in Tynemouth in 1849 for a Florannah Richardson, so the name might have run in the family.
Have searched for Floranna in census returns, and see she was born ca. 1859 in Seghill. Searching for a marriage,
I come up with this stunning page in June 1878:
Newcastle upon Tyne Northumberland
Bell, Ann
Blackett, John
Richardson, Thomas
Symington, William
1 only bride - 3 grooms, one named Richardson. Went to check on the actual images whether Thomas was a mistranscription for Floranna. Unfortunately, no. (Still wanting this to be their marriage
I don't exclude a mistranscription somewhere)
Anyway, searching for this girl prior to her marriage in 1871, I see this:
Rg10/5131 61 17
25 Blaketown (?), Seghill
John Richardson, head, Coal miner, 52, b. Whitton Globes
Sarah, wife, 52, b. Welburn
Mary, dau, unm, 22, b. Seghill
William, son, unm, 20, Coal miner, b. do.
Flora___ (it could read both Florance or Floranna, I'd dearly like somebody else to have a look) dau, 14, scholar, b. do.
John, son, 8, scholar, b. do.
Isabell, dau, 1, b. do.
This Mary is a few years out. Are you positive about her birth year? Also, you say you have Mary and Thomas in 1901: Where was she born according to it?
Probably clutching at straws but I thought I'd post it anyway
