Hi Steve,

For 1851 you may want to try this link...

http://www.dumgal.gov.uk/historicalindexes/census.aspx

They appear to be at household ref 6/99 parish moffat.  Make sure you clear the text out of the other fields.  Jane his wife and a grand daughter Jane along with Margaret are in the house.

1841 is partly on Freecen- but I don't think Moffat is fully covered yet. Keep checking though  ;)

Hope this helps,
Pam

Thanks,i'd already searched there and found those people, but they are a generation later,so it's not them.

Thanks anyway

The coverage of the Dumgal site is supposed to be 100% for Dumfriesshire - Wigtownshire has bits missing.

Can I confirm the years in your first post?

Was Jane really 60 when she had Jessie?  That would be rather late for a child?  Not impossible but still verry very late.

Same with Margaret?  Jane would be about 58?

Good point,i'm afraid i just lifted the info from the IGI years ago,so i've not confirmed it.
I suspect that you are correct and that they are the family i'm looking for.

Thanks

Steve

don't know if you got the books you were after. Thurrock Museum in Grays will have copies of Martha Randell, the others will be harder to find. They have other books on the area. Speak to Jonathan Catton. PB :)
