Porter, George William
« on: Monday 09 January 06 14:04 GMT (UK) »
 ???
Does anyone have any information about a George William Porter from Dorking, Surrey, England - bricklayer/builder by trade. Born around 1856 in Rudgwick or Slinfold, Sussex.  Emigrated from England around 1903-1906?  May have brought a son with him, George H. Porter aged around 14 yrs....born around 1890 in Pokesdown, Christchurch, Dorset.  ::)

Many listed but no dates...
http://www.islandnet.com/cgi-bin/ms2/jveinot/search

and automated genealogy 1911 has one George who is 53, but he says he is Canadian...but not completely transcribed as yet,...and as you can see, Ontario was abuzz with Porters...and Georges galore!!!
But keep checking and they may yet show up....

By the way...welcome to rootschat...and don't give up!
You've given us a tough one, but sometimes the information is
easy to find, sometimes not.  Good luck with your searches!  J.J.

Not sure what you were after really but here is some census info for you

it honestly does say Hampshire although as far as I am aware Bournemouth is in Dorset.

:)  Thank you JJ - I will check out automatedgeneology.com.   I think my George W Porter may have thought he was 53 - so it is possible, and he could well have said he was Canadian......with this chappy anything might be possible!!!

As I say, it is incomplete, so keep checking back to see if he shows...
lots to be transcribed yet. In the meantime, try another family line,
here in rootschat and maybe you'll have more luck with another
name search, for now....I have had so much help it boggles the mind.
