Would anybody have any idea where I could find information about someone who was in the Home Guard in Surrey during the second world war?  A photograph of his unit would be brilliant.

The Home Guard service papers were found in stores when the Army Medal Office closed. They had been listed for destruction, but thanks to the efforts of the 2-i/c they were saved and he was looking for a home for them. No news yet as to where they will end up. He spent months going through everything that was to be destroyed and tried to find a home for it. Future generations will owe him a big debt.

Hi Balfour

If you know the town/village where he lived, it may be worthwhile to contact the main local library/local studies area for that place - they often have information/photographs/books on WW2 for their area.

Best wishes

Dear Steve

If you should find out where the Home Guard service papers eventually end up, perhaps you could let me know.  You can't imagine that sort of thing just being thrown out.  It is brilliant that there are people about who recognise the importance of them.

Hello Annie

You could spend days enjoying that memories site!  It's no good.  I shall definitely have to give up work.
