Hi LM

You could always try and order the birth certificate on-line.  It's a new feature the Province of Ontario has.

https://www.orgforms.gov.on.ca/eForms/start.do

Next time I'm at the library I'll see if I can find a marriage for Sarah Coveney.

Hi LM,

Do you have Louis and Adelaide's marriage certificate from 1907?

I wonder since Louis says he has prior service on his WWI papers with the East Surrey Militia if he was perhaps in the Boer War and that's why we can't find him on the 1901 census?

Hi Karen
Yes I do have his marriage cert 1907, his name was Bisaney then, he was a general dealer and lived in Hampton Wick, Kingston Surrey, his father Francis  Bisaney was a witness along with someone I don't recognize.

On the 1901 there is a family of BISINI or similar living in Kingston of Italian decent, but no recognizable names there.

I did wonder about the Boer war, I have been to the archives in Kew to find his militia papers but I couldn't find anything about him, all I have is 2 pages of attestation papers but I do know there is a longer version of these papers that can be got via the Canadian web site, I really do not know it it will tell me anymore than I already have on the 2 pages

The person who I believe is his daughter, Violet Rita married 1963 in England, I have tracked down her husbands death and have ordered it, this might tell me if Violet was alive at his death, I have been unable to find her death covering from 1963 to 2000, she was born in Canada circa 1915.

A huge thank you to you and the fellow Rootschatters who have so kindly helped me so far.

regards

LM

Hi LM,

Just for your reference, the complete WWI military files would likely contain the following:

-the same attestation papers that you have
-record of all his movements (all his transfers to and from different battalions, if he served overseas it would have name of ship and date of sailing from Canada, dates of service at the front, etc...)
-his medical and dental records, hospital stays, etc...
-record of any disciplinary action taken against him
-record of medals earned
-some files contain the soldier's will
-some files contain pay records, with address where pay was being sent
-some files contain the application for the War Services Gratuity (some soldiers were eligible for these payments after the war) - sometimes gives a post-war address that is different from the one when they enlisted (not applicalbe in your case since he was KIA)
-usually includes a notation if the soldier marries or has a child during the war

Since you already know his wife's name and when they were married, it would not likely contain any info that would help you move forward in your search - it would just be "interesting-to-know" stuff to add to your picture of Louis.

Hope this helps,

Martha

Thank you Martha
I do intend to get his full attestation papers but I am bogged down with trying to get him on the census, I have a strong feeling he may not have been there for your 1911, he missed our 1901 which really is a bit of a nuisance, if I do get his attestation papers it might even tell me where he was on the 1901.
When I did go into the site for his papers I was totally confused and gave it up temporarily.

Thank you for your help, everyone is so helpful
