This is beginning to look promising!  Samuel has 2 sisters, the Sarah is the same age as yours, but you need a father David for her, so Welshjo's theory that the relationship is further back might hold water.

Stopping to regather my thoughts!

I have been looking for a Margaret THOMAS b c1825 in Cenarth on the 1851 census.

I was hoping she would be at home with father Samuel (b c 1798 Cenarth a farmer) per Welshjo's evidence in the 1881 census - Glamorgan board.

Hopefully she would also have a brother David (later to be Sarah's father)

BUT - couldn't find one!  She might have left home as there are lots of servants to choose from.

You could try posting separately for an 1841 census look-up with the information we have gathered (hopefully there is not a glaring mistake: would be grateful if you read through & check!)  You will need to state all the family's details (& preferably cross refer this thread).  Even then, it will be v difficult as the 1841 census is not indexed!

Still thinking...

Hi Jed

Quote
Possible clue...
I know my grandmother's family had relations at Allt- y-ddol \ Alltyddol Farm or Farm House in Eglwyswrw, Crymych, Dyfed from about 1870's to possibly 1950.
There were Evans's living at Alltyddol!?
I have quite a few family post cards to & from the Alltyddol.

Who lived at Alltyddol during the Census's

I have "walked" Eglwyswrw in 1901 and cannot locate a property of the same name.

Similarly, I looked last night at the website I told you about www.old-maps.co.uk and although the village is there, I couldn't find a property to match.

Og course, it could be an outlying farm, but I am not usfficiently familiar with the area to suggest where!

My suspicion is - as Welshlady suggested some time ago - we will find (or not!) the link is a further generation back and you might need to consult parish records in order to establish a link.

I will give it some more thought, but if anyone has local expertise that would be much appreciated at this point!

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

Hi Jed

You asked for a follow-up to Reply #4 above - here is the 1871 census for that family:

RG10/5540/105/5

Pentre Bach, Bridell, Pembrokeshire

Mary JENKINS H M 37 - formerly servant - Clydey Pembroke
David son 10 - Bridell do
Thomas Edwin son 4 - do
Mary Elizabeth dau 7 months - do

Not sure where Thomas is, but he should be somewhere!

It is best to keep this correspondence on the boards - it also helps me to keep track of what I have done already - rapidly losing the plot!!  ;D

Further to my last

Ty Newyd (sic) in Bridell is uninhabited according to the 1871 census.

There is a second schedule for the property, which has:

Elizabeth HUGHES H U 37 - dairy maid - Bridell

The house is about 3 away from the JENKINS family.

Thank you Arranroots, it's very difficult, isn't it!

Ref: Your Reply #4 above, do you know if their place of birth is known, especially if Thomas has dissapeared on this 1871 census.
It could be a clue to where he's gone?

Do you think this is my David A Jenkins? Oh heck! Do you have any suggestions?

Many thanks.
Kind regards,
Jed

Hi Jed

I can manage the answer to that one!

I have put "do" under the place of birth, shorthand for ditto, so the children were all born in Bridell Pembrokeshire.

Oh!  Just realised you prob mean the answer above.  Heck!

Reply #4 says all born Pembrokeshire, so they must not have said precisely where (helpful lot!!)

I would like some helppppp please.

Where is my Great grandmother SARAH ANN THOMAS?

Marriage details:
Sarah Ann Thomas b.10th May 1860 Cenarth - her father David Thomas (a Farmer) at 158 Newport Road on 1 Aug 1889
 &
David Jenkins b.20 Mar 1861 - his father Thomas Jenkins (a Farmer) at 12 Crichton Street. Roath on 1 Aug 1889

married. 1st Aug 1889 @ St. Margaret's, Roath, Cardiff

The 1901 and 1891 censuses above are the same

In presence of Samuel & Eliza Thomas - Who are they??

I think, Sarah Ann Thomas's birthday & place of birth need to be found in some way on a Cenarth (or close proximity) 1871 census because it might have more clues - showing her as Daug, Unm, aged either 9, 10 or 11yrs with David Thomas as her father.
It would be nice to see a Samuel & Eliza Thomas on the census too.
Then the 1861 census would hopefully show Sarah Ann Thomas as a 1, 2 or 3 year old.

I have a sneaky feeling that my Grandparents Sarah Ann Jenkins & David Jenkins are buried at Llandaff.
Could there be some clues there?
Has the Llandaff grave yard has been transcribed in any way?

Sarah Ann Thomas's Bible has.
Sarah Ann Thomas - GLANDWR - CENARTH
written inside it.

The census details above - ref Reply No.1 & Reply No.3 are my family with Mary B as first born (Mary Beatrice Jenkins .1890)

'David Jenkins 3 weeks old' on Reply No. 4 - could very well be my Great Grandfather.

Is Sarah Ann Thomas in Pembrokshire or Carmarthenshire?

What do you think?

Kind regards,
Jed
