Just a thought
« on: Thursday 30 September 04 19:28 BST (UK) »

Just a thought.
I spend a lot of time trying to read the minute print at the bottom of postings to see if anyone else is researching a surname that is of interest to me.
Now,
not wishing to give some poor unsuspecting and, proberly. overworked webmaster nightmares, I think I'am going to get in the terdepoo's here, what would be the possibility of having an alphabetical listing somewhere that members can refer to.
I think it would certainly help newish members and especially those like myself who need a magnifying glass to read the instructions on pill bottles.

Hello Bill,

You mean a Rootschat members interests list? -  In principle it is a good idea, but would be quite a task, however, if we got some labour imput of some Rootschatters
it could be possibly be feasible......count me in!

Julie

Sounds like a great idea to me!   What sort of labour input would you want - I am a devil for punishment if it is within the realms of my capabilities!

I was thinking of all the collating and indexing of the names. -  That would be quite a task, but if we divided the alphabet up into sections and we took sections and indexed it, it might, just might be possible

Julie

Hi David,

Well, I am a fairly quick typist (80 w.p.m. once upon a time) so can certainly help with that side of it if necessary.

Not that I know much about computers, but would it be possible to put all the names into a database and let the machinery do the sorting?

David?....I'm Julie!

Yes, typing into Excel and then get the programme to sort alphabetical, or via submitters, dates, places etc.

Julie

Couldn't there just be a page called Member's Interests and each person types their names in?
Letley, Kent/Anywhere ... Attempting a One Name Study.
Dunn, Yorkshire/Kent,
Garrett, Kent
Petyt, Yorkshre/Kent
Sheehan, Ireland/Kent
Summersett, Kent
Webb, Kent
