Wiskens and Larter
« on: Monday 04 October 04 08:07 BST (UK) »
Hi,  I am researching JAMES WISKENS who married SUSANNAH LARTER in Weybread in 1819.  I am having difficulty in going further back on either of these two.

Their son EDWARD WISKENS emigrated with family to Australia and on the shipping rec ords it notes that Edward's father was dead and his mother, SUSANNAH PARK was living in Fressingfield.

Can anyone assist at all?   It would be appreciated.    Marie in Sydney.

Hi,

I have a relative whose name was George James Wiskin and who was born in Weybread, Suffolk 1822. This must be the same George Wiskin that you say was the son of James Wiskin and Susannah Larter, mustn't it? Do you know how to find out more about his parents and grandparents?

George James Wiskin married Charlotte Green from Ponders End, London. They moved first to Denmark, then to Riga and ended up in Hughesovka in southern Russia where George founded an ironworks.

George James Wiskin and Charlotte Green had a daughter called Emma Emily Wiskin (born 1856) who married Walter Betts, a machine engineer in railroads, and moved to Sweden.

Thankful for any help that can give me more information!

I'm a bit late to this party but I am also a descendant of James Wiskin and Susanna Larter. I am new to this and have recently picked up the threads of my late father's work into our ancestry.

I have information that James was the son of William Wiskin who was baptized in Mendham, Suffolk on 30 Mar 1766. He married Mary Stannard on 12 Mar 1790 at All Saints Church, Mendham. I hope to visit there someday.

My ancestors are descended from James and Susanna's son, George who married Charlotte Green, and their son William Edward. William's son, Frederick Walter was my grandfather. He was born in Hughesovka, Russia but subsequently emigrated to Canada after the revolution. Interestingly, my grandmother was also descended from Charlotte Green through her first husband, Thomas Lewin.

I am very interested in knowing more information about the family during this and earlier time frames if available.

A little more on James Wiskin and Susanna Larter.

James and Susannah had five children between 1820 and 1831, William, George, Edward, Alfred and Eliza. All were baptised in Weybread and Mendham, Suffolk.
In March 1832 James was convicted of sheep stealing and transported to Van Dieman's Land, arriving in February 1833. He received a Conditional Pardon in March 1846, but I can find no further references to James.

James' son Edward emigrated to Australia in 1855 with wife Maria, while William's son Arthur emigrated to Australia in about 1875.

Susanna remarried Charles Rush in 1841 and died in June 1856.
