Suggestions required - John William Brown
« on: Wednesday 06 October 04 12:23 BST (UK) »
We are trying to find a birth cert for John William Brown, only problem is we dont know where he was born.

John married Annie Eva Hamilton in Romford in 1892. They had a son in 1895 called Cyril Frederick Brown also in Romford. Now, between 1895 and 1910 they had 2 more sons, George & Arnold (years and places unknown), and in 1910 they had a daughter called Alma Frances Helena Brown who was born in Wolverhampton. John died in Wolverhampton in 1928.

On both johns marriage cert and Cyrils birth cert John is down as a Seargent in 2nd Leciestershire Regiment.

Are there any records available for this regiment for the 1890's?

Does anyone have some sort of access to records for this regiment that they could check for us?

Other than military records, can anyone suggest anywhere else to look for Johns birth that we may have over looked?

Sorry for all the questions, but its starting to get a bit frustrating not being able to find him and we're not sure where else to look.
Bradford / Leeds :- Rowntree, Gillings, Clayton, Wood, Hopkinson.
Wolverhampton :- Littleton, Pearson, Evans, Leighton.

Hi,

if you go to:

http://www.regiments.org/regiments/uk/inf/017Leics.htm

There is all sort of basic info about the regiment, including a link to :
http://www.armymuseums.org.uk/amot-search/default.asp?Category=Amot&Service=Museum-Display&reference=0000000105

Which is the Regimental Museum. Based on my own experience trying to find my GGF in the Black Watch, they should at least be able to point you in the right direction, if not give you exactly the info you are looking for.

Good luck

HI
Do you have an age for John off the marriage certificate,if you do,let me know and I could search the census for you to try and find him, that should then give a birth place.

Since you have a potential Groom age 2 born in Lee, Kent; Have it checked out on the '71 London Census (Lee comes under London). You may be able to match it with father's name and occupation.
