1871 Glamorgan Census
« on: Friday 24 March 06 22:53 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

are the 1871 census for Glamorgan complete.

I can't find my Flynn or Crimmins family on them.

They can be found on the 61,81,91 and 1901 living in the same area,
and all their children were born in Cardiff between these dates, but none
of them can be found in the 1871.

Thanks
Diane

Hi Diane,

As far as I am aware, it is fairly complete, but am no expert.  Do you want to post details and maybe people can help you look.  Perhaps they are mistranscribed.

Thanks for the reply Cas,

had another look at the census and still can't find them,
perhaps I can't see the wood for the trees---so to speak.

Found Flynns in the 1881 glamorgan census

Robert Flynn b 1845 Ireland
Catherine(wife) b 1845 Ireland
Mary A (dau) b 1864 Cardiff
James(son) b 1867-Cardiff
Hannah(dau) b 1872-Cardiff
Catherine(dau)b 1877-Cardiff
Edwin(son)b 1879-Cardiff

Can be found in 1891-1901 living in the same area,as you can see by the first childs dob they should be in the 1871.

The same apply's for my other set of g,g,granparents who lived in the same
place,

Denis Crimmins b 1821-Ireland
Margret(wife) b 1831-Ireland
John(son) b 1853-Cardiff
Mary(dau)1855 b -Cardiff
Honorah (dau) b 1858-Cardiff

This family can be found in 1861-1881-1891-1901  glamorgan census, but not the 1871.

It's a puzzle!

Any help appreciated.

Hi Mary, you are right it is a puzzle.

No trace of any.  I look through every page in St Marys and St Johns.  Tried every trick I know for mistranscription.

The only thing I can suggest is that some of the census is missing, or maybe they decided to take a trip back to Ireland to visit for a while.

Some things take time to work out, others we will never know!

Good luck anyway.
