Griffiths Valuation Dates -COMPLETED

Could someone tell me how the Griffiths Valuation was carried out?  Was it a  yearly census??  I ask because I'm trying to work out when the last Valuation was carried our in the Ballina area of County Mayo.  The last date I have to work from is 1853, but I am led to believe that is could have been as late as 1863.  Hope you can help me.  Thank you.  Dee

Ticker, thank you so much for that Griffiths web site.  I does make things a bit clearer for me.   I am still searching for our particular family.  Have just about exhausted all other 'avenues' and think we will have to go to Ballina to continue the search.
