« on: Sunday 10 October 04 19:26 BST (UK) »
Hi there.

Joseph Wenham 1747 married Frances Crittenden on the 29th June 1772 at St Mary Ticehurst. Is it possible to fine their marriage lines and so their parents? any help very gratefully received!

thanks Meg

Hallo Chris, Thanks for your prompt reply. I've mailed the vicar at St Mary Ticehurst perhaps he can come up with something and I'll have to follow the lead from Etchington where Joseph Wenham was born.

Good hunting
Meg

Hi Meg

Well done

I looked on the 1801 census for ticehurst (yes, this census still survives) and although there are 3 wickam families, non have John as the head (1 Humphrey, 2 Richard)

Also looked for Wenham / Whenham  and Cruttendon families - but there were none of either.

hi Chris, couldn't find anything about the other witness
J. Polhill, I'd hoped it was John Wickhams fiance, but he married Jenny Kemp so that put pay to that fantasy!!!

Hi again

Not sure where they went, but you didnt have to move far, say like the next village - I was only looking at Ticehurst itself, not the surrounding area.

By the time of the 1851 census, there were 2 Cruttenden families back in Ticehurst as well as some 16 people with the Wenham surname.

Hi

Have just looked at the 1811 census for Ticehurst only (again it survives) and low and behold there are no Cruttendons or Wenhams.

In the 1841 census for Ticehurst, there are 3 entries for Cruttenden but none for Wenham

Strange is it not
