Until searching for this programme I did not realise te BBC had a family history section on their website (did it exist before?).

There is some pretty good stuff on there for beginners:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/trail/familyhistory/

And about "Your Region":
http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/your_history/your_region/

Well worth exploring if you haven't already done so.

The BBC did have a Family History section before .... but not that one ..... its had a considerable revamp and expansion although I wouldn't be cynical enough to say it was to push the show  :P

I would be very surprised if Lesley Garrett does her own, although it's possible. Should be interesting if she does, as she comes from a good Yorkshire family . . .

True Mrs Lizzy, that would be good. However, after watching the first show featuring Bill Oddie they did reveal that they had a 'genealogy expert' (if there is such a thing) which helped Bill along the way although, Bill did do allot of work too. He also had the help from a distant-ish cousin who had researched the Oddie family back to about 1710 in a small Lancashire village.

It was quite a good show.

Well we've just had the 1st show.  I thought it was good.  I know he had a team of researchers but it didn't make anything look easier than it is.

It was very emotional.

What did you guys think?

I enjoyed it too.

Did anyone notice that in the beginning Bill Oddie said that he was doing it "For Therapy", not just out of curiosity, like curiosity on its own was a bad thing?

maybe curiosity is our therapy... I found that it was not just the program that I enjoyed but the digital extras I could access and am really looking forward to the other weeks...

best wishes

Hmm, the digital extras were very enticing but I'm on a coal driven telly - 5 channel max.  What did they offer?  I see the BBC website has been overhauled as well.

It was good that Bill's was very touching and focused on enriching his knowledge speaking to family visiting towns, museums etc.  I forget sometimes it is more than certs tying together with census.

I guess my scientific background makes me think of research as a factual jigsaw.  Hohum.
