Police constables on 1841 census
« on: Thursday 27 April 06 17:16 BST (UK) »
Hi
I have found my gtgtgrandfathers family on the 1841 census. The family were spread out over Shoreditch and Ely in Cambridge. Unfortunately gtgtgf himself is no where to be found. He is by profession a police constable based in Shoreditch. My query is, if he were on duty on the date of the census, where would he be registered.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Alli
His name is William Broom Cross b 1807 Stilton, Huntingdonshire.
I know he was in Shoreditch in 1837 because he appears on his sons birth cert. He had attained the rank of Sargeant by 1848. I have found him on the 1851 and 1861 census both in Shoreditch. In 1841 the family were split between Ely in Cambridge and Shoreditch.
Thanks for your interest.
